Cruz Beckham, 11, faces backlash over Christmas song

Cruz Beckham Instagram photoDavid and Victoria Beckham‘s youngest son, Cruz Beckham, 11, released a single yesterday titled “If Everyday Was Christmas.” Proceeds from the single will go to the British charity Make Some Noise, which helps disadvantaged children and young people in various ways through smaller charities.

Cruz, who recently signed with Justin Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun, said during a radio interview to promote the single that it incorporates two of his favorite things: “singing and Christmas.”

The third youngest Beckham (he has a younger sister) has been teasing the single this week on his Instagram page. However, not all the feedback has been positive.

Piers Morgan, one of the hosts of the TV show Good Morning Britain, slammed the Beckhams for exploiting their son.

When both of his co-hosts said they thought the single was a good thing because it was for charity, Morgan replied, “I say, why don’t you go to school mate? Because you’re not famous, your parents are famous.” He added that the Beckhams should “stop putting these kids into the public domain while simultaneously saying ‘privacy!’.”

Scooter Braun protested on Twitter, writing, “how about you match him dollar for dollar to the charity? Instead of criticizing step up and help these kids the way Cruz is.”

To which Morgan responded: “Stop pretending this is about charity when it’s about promoting Brand Beckham & making YOU a ton of money off another young kid’s back.”

Morgan described Cruz’s singing voice in a Daily Mail article as “fairly squeaky and quite annoying.”

Check out the single below and tell us if you agree with Piers Morgan.

Oh God, that’s horrible. He sounds like a chipmunk with a nasal condition.

  2. kay • December 8, 2016 @ 10:49 AM

I thought it was cute, you have to remember hes only 11
has;nt hit puberty yet. then that voice will change.

  3. Faith • December 8, 2016 @ 11:09 AM

He sounds great! What the heck is wrong with people?
The proceeds go to charity, like come on people!!! Where is your spirit of Christmas?

  4. Penguin • December 8, 2016 @ 11:38 AM

He hit a few good notes okay. Time and experience will help him as he gets older, especially if singing is what he wants to do when older. So long as his parents explained to him what he was going to do and why that’s okay. Maybe he came up with the idea himself?

  5. Jake • December 8, 2016 @ 11:51 AM

ROFLOL Penguin! “He hit a few good notes okay.” Very true. Some of it didn’t suck and the song itself is good, they just should have hired a kid who could sing all the notes if they wanted it to be a hit. And yes, I think his parents are exploiting their kids. Didn’t one of the other kids model for Burberry awhile ago? Why not let people who actually need the money pimp out their kids?

  6. Jessica • December 8, 2016 @ 12:01 PM

At 11, Justin Bieber was a really good singer. In contrast, this kid slips off the notes, he doesn’t pronounce the words, he doesn’t put any emotion into it, he just sings the words like he’s reading them off a page and sometimes I can’t even hear him, the background singers overpower him. The fact that Scooter Braun signed him means he can’t tell a bad singer from a good one and just lucked out that Bieber actually had talent.

What’s with the dirty, used skateboard he’s holding? What does it have to do with Christmas? There’s nothing remotely Christmasy about these amateurish photos that go with the song… the cheesy doodles just make it look even more amateur.

Leave the kid alone. He’s showing initiative and is fortunate to have helpful parents. He is learning to do what he can to help others and loves singing and Christmas. Dont pick on him because he has well known parents . Doesnt matter what he sounds like, or looks like. Cruz is trying to share the joy he finds in Christmas and love of singing. My kids loved skateboards too. He is an amateur, who wrote on the cover himself. Way to go Cruz. Happy Christmas. The people who criticize are sitting doing nothing. God Bless you and all the kids you help.

It’s too bad they used auto tune to make him sound better

  10. Sonya • December 8, 2016 @ 1:29 PM

I agree with Piers Morgan. Celebrities try to use charity work to promote their own causes. Their children are used in the process.

  11. Marg • December 8, 2016 @ 1:40 PM

I am a parent and grandparent. I would be so proud of any of my children/grandchildren if they could do what Cruz is doing at 11 years of age. And almost every parent i know would help and support their child in any way they could. The Beckhams are parents first, obviously love their children and are in the position to do more than the average parents could do to encourage and support. Those are facts. Take them at face value and please recognize the value of encouraging any child in persuing anything they are interested in.
How many other celebrities have the connections and friends which have benefited the advancement of their children. It’s human nature.
The Beckhams give back in so many ways and they are not only supporting Cruz but teaching him to give to charity.
We should all be the kind of parents who encourage and support their children, in any circumstance.

People lighten up. His voice is sweet, he is a child and I bet he has the fantasies of most 11 year olds. Good for him, Bah Humbug Piers

  13. Mary Auld • December 8, 2016 @ 2:55 PM

Unlike his mother…..he has quite a nice voice, sounds like an 11yr old but can carry the tune and has some music in his voice. People like the Beckhams (especially the mother) always want to be in the limelight and like other so-called ‘celebrities’ thrust their children there to keep the name out there. Like David Beckham a lot, he is a decent guy, sincere and very nice……Victoria I could live without.

  14. Carol • December 8, 2016 @ 3:00 PM

Shouldn’t have read the comments BEFORE listening to the song. Expected it to be bad. I thought it was well done. Lots of feeling and a sweet voice. I thoroughly enjoyed it. He’s only 11. Can’t wait to hear what he sounds like in a few years!

    With Cruz!

  15. Carol • December 8, 2016 @ 3:01 PM

    Meant wtg Cruz!

  16. likeit1 • December 8, 2016 @ 4:05 PM

Piers Morgan needs to cork it…he is a limp excuse for a TV Host

  17. Rikkitikkitavi • December 8, 2016 @ 4:29 PM

I’m not a fan of the Beckham’s at all, but I don’t agree with most of the comments posted here. The negative comments are clearly by people who are either jealous or just plain mean. For an 11 year old, he did a wonderful job. Jessica, how many songs have you recorded or produced. Perhaps you should check your hearing aide, I was able to discern every word in the song, and didn’t find that he slipped off the notes. Did you perhaps slip and hit your head.

  18. Judy • December 8, 2016 @ 4:52 PM

Your just a dirty old man,who has no talent ,who has nothing better to do with your time than pick on a small child. You must be proud of your self.oh you have to have a heart to feel anything.

  19. David • December 8, 2016 @ 5:09 PM

Piers Morgan’s voice is annoying-the kid sings quite well-way too many critics in this world-he’s only 11 people(come on -what’s wrong with u people criticizing an 11 yr old like ur some kind of expert)

  20. JoAnne • December 8, 2016 @ 5:25 PM

Nice song, good charity…. that’s it, from me….

  21. Claire Leblanc • December 8, 2016 @ 9:11 PM

    Just as bad as Bieber

  22. Tricia • December 8, 2016 @ 11:02 PM

I think it is ridiculous that a grown man would bad mouth a child. Reasons: #1 – If your Dad or Mom was a journalist, would you possibly consider it as a career? Or a doctor or engineer or lawyer? Well, Cruz has a Mom who was a singer. #2 – Maybe it isn’t fair that the kids of celebrities get special treatment… but so do many other entitled children (royalty, old rich, new rich, political families). #3 – One song doesn’t make a career. Once his voice changes it might be a different story. Plus, he may change his mind about what he wants (after all he is only 11). #4 – Does Piers Morgan have children? Would he make them start at the bottom and work their way to the top? Or would he want to help them in any way he could? If I was Vic or Dave Beckham I would promote his enthusiasm with everything I had. Don’t forget, there are loads of celebrity kids who accomplish zip, nada, zero. They just party and waste the time of the justice system.

  23. Dianne • December 8, 2016 @ 11:22 PM

Oh for heaven sake, leave the kid alone! I don’t know why anyone would be mean about this. It’s not nice to pick on a KID WHO’S TRYING TO DO SOMETHING GOOD. Piers Morgan ‘Shhhhhhh’. He doesn’t sound horrible, he just sounds like an 11 year old boy. I thought he did a good job. People, if you can’t say anything nice then please, don’t say anything at all.

    Merry Christmas.

  24. Gail • December 8, 2016 @ 11:36 PM

Cruz did a great job of singing the song. To the critics , especially morgan, can you do better, I doubt it. Pick on someone who can defend themself and grow up while your at it.
Where is your Christmas Spirit, are you friends with the Grinch. To everyone who was a
critic of Cruz, many it return to you 1000 fold and learn the lesson of being nice.

  25. cheryl • December 9, 2016 @ 7:57 AM

Hey the kid doesn’t sound bad for a wee boy. And he is trying to do something good for the less fortunate good for him

  26. Ann • December 12, 2016 @ 4:51 PM

Cute song. He is still very young so his singing voice still has a long way to go. Lots of children of celebrities go into show business because they are around it.
Though I don’t always agree with P. Morgan I do agree with his response to Scooter Braun. S.Braun number one priority isn’t that the money is going to charity but making money for himself. He has a tendency to sign young boys!?

  27. Luci Murray • December 13, 2016 @ 7:57 AM

Cute song and I think he did an amazing song. Good for him for doing this for charity.

  28. Barbara • December 25, 2018 @ 5:04 PM

Leave the kid alone! He’s not making any money from the song and I think it’s GREAT! He can carry a tune more than most and maybe he really wants to sing. So many judgements! Look yourself in the mirror before judging someone else, especially a child! Some people are so cruel and those of you who ‘slammed’ Cruz really need to look at yourself.

Way to go, Cruz! You rock❣️
