Daniel Radcliffe admits alcohol problem

Daniel Radcliffe reveals in the new issue of GQ magazine that he used to have a drinking problem, but said he’s been sober for almost a year. “I became so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff,” Radcliffe, who’s currently starring on Broadway in the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, told the magazine. He says he began drinking whiskey on the set Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2008, but luckily, no paparazzi caught him in the act. “I really got away with that because there were many instances when a paparazzi shot like that could have been taken,” he says. “There were a few years there when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me.” By the time he finished filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Radcliffe put a stop to his drinking when he realized it was becoming a problem. “There’s no shame in enjoying a quiet life,” he explains. “And that’s been the realization of the past few years for me … As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn’t work for me. I’d just rather sit at home and read, or go out to dinner with someone, or talk to someone I love, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh.”

You guys are ridiculous. Why would you makes jokes about something like this? It’s sad that as a young man, Radcliffe cannot enjoy a few drinks and have fun with friends in fear of alcohol addiction.

I commend him for his strength and being able to admit a problem and doing something about it.

At least he is smarter then Drew Barrymore and he wisened up at age 21 and stopped drinking..hopefully he doesn’t relapse and doesn’t turn to drugs and such. Good egg he is ha ha. But look at both these actors, he could have went wayyy downhill like she did at such a young age but then she smartened up later in life and now is wildly successful. Daniel learned early, let’s now see what the future holds for this kid. Pay attention Lohan.

Hey Jessica, maybe you need a drink to loosen up a bit.

I think it’s great that he recognized it before it got out of hand and bravo for sharing it. Maybe that will have some positive influence on some of the younger generation because we need to do something to get through to those kids.

    Germain,

Alcoholism isn’t funny and it takes a lot of strength and courage to overcome it and speak about it.

So no, I don’t need a drink to “loosen up”.
