Denis Leary’s insensitive Dick Clark joke – poll

By Tribute on April 21, 2012 | 15 Comments

Actor and comedian Denis Leary, who will be appearing in the upcoming film The Amazing Spider-Man, wasted no time in taking to Twitter to comment on the death of TV legend Dick Clark, who died at the age of 82 on Wednesday from a massive heart attack following prostate surgery. While many other celebrities offered their condolences, Leary tweeted what was likely intended to be a lighthearted joke. But many felt it was just insensitive and hurtful. The same day as his death, Leary tweeted: “With Dick Clark dead, Casey Kasem now reveling in his status as last and reigning king of leather faced syrup voiced lizard people,” adding, “I’m gonna package a Dick Clark Hologram Mc’ing a Tupac Hologram summer tour.” ~Krystin Edgerton

The first bit of the joke was just stupid; the second bit was quite good.

Yes, it is too soon, but hey, it’s denis leary which is to be expected..I’m sure others are on the same boat…sad thing is that it wasn’t even a good joke…shame on you denis..

The first part was just mean and insensitive, but the second part was pretty funny.

What if it was a regular Joe making a joke, would anyone care? He’s Denis Leary, that’s what he does. No arm, no foul.

It was just a joke, but the timing is not good. A little distance would have been more appropriate.

Fu*k propriety and your collective sense of moral sanctimony. Get over yourselves and stop expecting everyone to have the same sense of identity as performance of expectation that you sadly define yourself by.

Wow that wasn’t even a joke, just a well worded hidden insult.

    Tacky.

Too soon for what? That many people listen to Denis Leary or care what he has to say? I never even heard of Leary before now.

    Oh come on, over-react much?
Didn’t anyone listen to the song?
    He’s an A-Hole, says it himself ;o)

Not only is it too soon, it’s also wildly inappropriate. Dick Clark is a legend, and Mr. Leary, well he isn’t nearly one, so he should just keep his mouth shut.

Denis Leary is dumb. It is way to soon to be joking about this. How would one feel if they just lost a lover, friend, child etc. and some low life comedian made a joke about the death not even a week after. Its insensitive, rude and even for a comedian unjustified.

Not openly ha ha funny, but I see the humour.
