Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres was awarded the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center last night. A number of celebs attended the event, including her wife Portia de Rossi, Jimmy Kimmel and John Krasinski. Celebrities such as Whoopi Goldberg, Bill Crystal, Bill Cosby, Tiny Fey and Will Ferrell are among those who previously won the award. “I just want to make people happy and make people laugh,” Ellen said, in accepting the prize. “I’m flattered. It’s fantastic. Of course I think, ‘What took so long?'” Singer Jason Mraz, who was also at the event, revealed, “She’s the same backstage as she is on stage, and that’s why you love to watch her.” Comedian Sean Hayes added that Ellen has “changed America,” in representing the gay community. “You’ve changed the world. We didn’t have a voice until there was you.” Ellen publicly came out as a lesbian in 1997 and is now the host of the popular The Ellen DeGeneres Show. ~Luxy Hariharan

Steve Carell is headed to Broadway to make his debut in a new adaptation of Anton Chekov’s play Uncle Vanya at the Vivian Beaumont Theater in April 2024.
Good for her! Well deserved!
Of all the awards out there, I think this one is one of the biggest. Even bigger than Oscars. Why? Because it’s not because you can tell a joke. It’s because you spend a great deal of your life making people happy and they happen to laugh. If laugher is the best medicine, then this award is more than a spoonful of it. If I were dying of a bad disease on my death bed I would much rather go out laughing than go out crying. Better yet, go out crying cause I’m laughing so hard.
With all the horror in the world, you can’t go wrong with a little laugher to make your day brighter.
She is truly an inspiration. She truly deserves it.
Good on her
I have been watching Ellen for the longest time. She is an amazing person, and this award just really signifies everything she has done over the years. Really deserving.
Laughter is the cure for all forms of ailment. She does just that to millions of people on a daily basis with her comedic talk show.
She is not even that funny. Tries too damn hard.
Love it or hate it, Ellen still rocks.
She is fantastic. She always brings a smile to my face.
She deserves it.
