Ellen saddened by gay marriage ban

By Alexandra Heilbron on November 7, 2008 | 76 Comments

ellen_portia.jpgEllen DeGeneres, who married same-sex partner Portia de Rossi in August, says she is “saddened beyond belief” that Proposition 8 has been  passed, banning gay marriage in California. In a statement Wednesday to The Associated Press, the talk show host said that she, “like millions of Americans, felt like we had taken a giant step toward equality” by electing Barack Obama as president. But with the passage of California’s Proposition 8, “we took a giant step away.” DeGeneres had contributed $100,000 to fight the amendment, but says she will “continue to speak out for equality for all of us.”

I’m sorry, but who cares who marries who. If a same sex couple wants to get married let them. They aren’t hurting anyone else, what two adults do behind closed doors is there business and no one else’s. I totally agree that by letting Prop 8 pass is a step back for equality in the states.

The government giveth the government taketh away. You can always come to Canada.

  3. Magiq • November 7, 2008 @ 9:30 AM

What happened to America being the leader in human rights and equality for all?

Living in Toronto, we’ve had gay marriage for some time now and our world isn’t crumbling around us because of it. Social programs aren’t being sucked dry, tax revenues aren’t dwindling, the moral fabric of our society isn’t ripping apart.

What’s the excuse for banning this, I would really like to know what these closed minded people are thinking.

Just another black eye for America on a day when they should be commended for finally looking past the color of a man’s skin, they still can’t get past a PERSON’s sexuality.

Come visit us up here if you want to get married, you’re more than welcome to our beautiful city!

  4. Judy • November 7, 2008 @ 10:13 AM

I also think it is no one elses business, the government has no right to tell anywone who they can marry!

  5. Pat321 • November 7, 2008 @ 10:31 AM

This is not a comment for/against gay marriage, it is a comment about the government having no right.

But the government tells us all the time. You can’t marry multiple partners, or an underage person, or your dog, or your car, or your sibling.

You may think many of those are ridiculous or gross. But for many, getting gay marriages legalized is a stepping stone to some of these other scenarios.

Incestuous relationships, and polygamy seem wrong to us because North American laws are based on Christian principles, but these marriages are perfectly acceptable in many other cultures. There are even groups of “child lovers” who think it should be perfectly legal for adult/child sexual relationships.

I’ve seen the literature where “child lovers” are trying to prove to us that it is “normal” and “healthy”.

I’ve seen literature that proves some groups are pushing to make gay marriages legal just so they can use that as a platform to allow multiple partners as “Spouses”, and marrying non-humans (inanimate or animal).

Scary to me. Where should the line be drawn? Should it be drawn? Who decides?

  6. quinn • November 7, 2008 @ 10:37 AM

As long as we don’t keep silent, and keep speaking out things will change. If not today tomorrow. We will all be treated equal.

  7. john • November 7, 2008 @ 10:55 AM

Marriage is a sacred institution between one man and one woman. I am completely for a gay couple to have rights as anyone else. However, the government has no say in the marriage arena period. Marriage is a sacrament of the church, not the state. If a gay couple want to be together, that’s their business, just don’t try and take away from the Church to sanctify your belief. That is our rights as christians to uphold the sanctity of marriage.

  8. Dogmeat • November 7, 2008 @ 11:02 AM

Why does it always have to be a Christian thing? Marriage is sacred across many religions and what you Christians deny your followers should not have to be upheld for other religions. That’s why governments’ are involved, as mediators for all peoples.

Get off the high horse and let people do what people want to do, as long as they want to be left alone, why mess with them?

  9. Sorsha • November 7, 2008 @ 12:17 PM

So according to John we must all be Christian to be married and that it is a sacrement of the church…. hmmmm… very interesting. Let’s see… umm I personally don’t believe in God or the Church and yet I do believe in marriage. To me marriage is a partnership, the ultimate committment between to people that is based on love, and sexual attraction. It is a declaration that couples make to the whole world that shows that they are dedicated to loving each other forever, and only each other. They agree to accept each others’ differences (no matter how hard that maybe) and to raise any children they may have together.

God and church does NOT come into it for me at all, God will not keep me married to my husband, God will not help me to learn more about my husband and myself, God doesn’t do the laundry or cook the meals, or drive the kids to school/soccer/scouts/guides/cadets, God doesn’t pay the bills or take out the garbage that is up to me and my husband. We take strength from each other and from within ourselves not from God.

We have been married 14 years, we were NOT married in a church but in a garden. My husband and I both agreed to love honor and cherish each other, and we has strove to do this everyday since. I am more in love with husband and respect him more now that I did the day I married him at the age of 22 and we now have 4 children and that is what marriage is about!

Gay marriage completely fits in with my beliefs of what marriage is so I am also saddened by the decision in California to deny any couple the right to declare their commitment to each other.

  10. nat • November 7, 2008 @ 12:28 PM

lets see if this obama guy steps in and does something about this foolish injustice. then we’ll see if he really is the real deal, im so sorry for any gay couples in California or anywhere else for that matter that cant have a life of there choosing, anyone should be married if they want to.come on Arnold get it together.

  11. Dena • November 7, 2008 @ 3:04 PM

Thank you, Sorsha, for saying it first and saying it well. 🙂

Marriage does occur outside of religions, as also did mine.

Love is love, and if two people wish to partner in support, in caring and in building a future together, they should be allowed to. They should be protected legally and possess the rights of all who marry.

Not being religious is no impediment to marriage whatsoever. Sexual orientation shouldn’t be either.

  12. Allison • November 7, 2008 @ 3:24 PM

Marriage has nothing to do with religion. What about all those people who are not Christian or follow any religion for that matter. I myself am Atheist, but I still do believe in Love and Marriage. I am a straight woman and I don’t see what business the goverment has to take away rights of any body when it comes to whom they chose to spend the rest of their life with whether its a man or woman. I don’t have a problem with homosexuals. They don’t bother me..so why should to bother anyone else? Everyone against it, is doing it for “religious” reasons but you have to remember we don’t all follow the same religion and by banning gay marriage it shows hate and discrimination. I was all happy for Obama winning even though Im Canadian. But now I feel like its 1 step ahead and 2 steps back for California. It’s not right not at all!

  13. justkidding • November 7, 2008 @ 4:49 PM

Marriage is most definitely not a Christian only creation. Almost all cultures and all beliefs have some sense of marriage. We also see many definitions of marriage across the varieties of cultures. Is it just me are do you find that anyone that talks about a “christian” perspective seems to have a narrow mind? Am I missing something?

  14. Kelly • November 7, 2008 @ 5:30 PM

I’d like them to ‘propose’ to change the sentence of murder (any severity) to ‘death’ – applicable to all convictions, past, present and future – and see how those ‘peace loving’ people handle the change. How can they retroactively change a law that’s already been passed? I realize it’s controversial (so was women’s rights, and we’ve all since come to realize how stupid and unheard of that is now), but don’t you suppose they’re just trying to piss these people off enough to incite some kind of uproar so that they might prove gay and lesbian people to not be stable/sane people? Wouldn’t that make all the nay sayers feel better about all of their god-fearing beliefs?

  15. Mary Ann • November 7, 2008 @ 5:39 PM

I was so thrilled that Obama was elected. then my good feel was dashed by the news that several states supported the ban on same sex marriage. Who cares if two people of the same sex wish to marry? There is such a lack of love in the world now, why stop people who care about each other from acknowledging those feelings.
If two people love each other and wish to marry, being the same sex should be no barrier. The ‘state’ does not belong in the bedrooms of the nation.

  16. unbeliveable • November 7, 2008 @ 6:31 PM

Sorsha i cant believe u just said that, have some faith God helps u with everything, its so sad when people say they dont believe in God.

  17. tributegirl • November 7, 2008 @ 7:55 PM

I understand what you are saying, John, you are looking at it from the perspective of a Christian wedding. Personally, I feel that Christian churches should not perform gay wedding ceremonies because it is against the beliefs of the bible that they are supposedly following. A lot of Christian churches these days seem to have altered their holy book to appease society. However I don’t think California, or any state, should take rights away from people, especially so soon after giving them those rights! What a slap in the face!

  18. john hillier • November 7, 2008 @ 10:38 PM

I bet if the vote was, should we let black people get married. or any other group. there would be marches on the white house and in every city. every gay person in cali should take the goverment to court for discrimination.

  19. Roberta • November 8, 2008 @ 12:01 AM

I was absolutely astounded when I heard that the gov’t actually had this as a REFERENDUM for the public to decide!!! They left an important ETHICAL issue up to a bunch of ill-educated yahoos (most of the public) rather than leave it to those who are well versed in the details of the constitution(s). You don’t let the public make ethical constitutional changes. If this had been done for the female vote & then equality or the black vote & subsequent equality, neither would have happened!! The public often needs to be led by the nose ring, like a stubborn bull, into the future. I am just appalled that something this important was left in the public hands rather than with cooler more level heads. Who is it hurting for the Homosexual community to marry?? NO ONE! To those “Christians” who are so upset by this, I have news for you: Christ would NEVER have done this kind of thing. He would have been kind and supportive of their emotional needs…and remember it was MEN (and likely at least one woman) who wrote the old testament, NOT “God”. Men, who like those paranoid people now, had freako reactions to homosexuality, causing them to write ill of it in their “bible”. Other even older cultures/religions did not see it this way necessarily. Time to grow up, and grow brains. It’s the 21st century. I see most who have posted here have brains. It gives me hope….

  20. Demigod • November 8, 2008 @ 1:00 AM

Banned in California of all places..
    Ironic considering their demographics.
Anyone here think this would be an issue if it wasn’t for RELIGION?
The only thing that should be banned in Cali is celebrity marriages 🙂 Is there anything less sacred?

  21. tributegirl • November 8, 2008 @ 9:27 AM

Celebrity marriage ban! Demigod, how do you come up with this stuff, you’re hilarious!
Actually my brother lived in California for 3 years, I don’t quite remember how he said it works, but it is something like this: If a person wants a law changed, they have to get some sort of legal petition going, get a certain number of signatures on that petition, then present it to the State, who then HAS to leave it up to a public vote. Apparently there are so many going on at any given time that a lot of people don’t even know what is being petitioned for/against. So it could have all started with one person who then got family & friends to sign, and then branched out from there.

  22. natalie • November 8, 2008 @ 11:47 AM

No one’s talking about what happened in states other than California, but Florida and Arizona both banned same-sex marriage too. And Arkansaw passed a measure to stop Homosexuals from adopting kids!! The thing that bothers me most about this is that they’re taking away the rights of a group of people after having already decided to give them those rights. If you have already made the decision to give a group of people important rights, such as marriage, to me, it doesn’t even matter now whether you’re for or against same-sex marriage, you can’t go around giving and then quickly taking away people’s rights.

I think that the United States is such a stupid contry for caring so much on who marries who. They should be more concerned on the economy and crime and things like that. The States is just plain stupid.

  26. Demigod • November 8, 2008 @ 5:06 PM

The latest is Ellen and Portia’s marriage just ended! Let’s see how she feels about marriage if she loses half her fortune. Then she’ll be truly ‘ Saddened beyond belief’!

  27. Adrian • November 8, 2008 @ 9:33 PM

The people have spoken. This was voted on by the people of California. We live in a democracy, and majority rules.

  28. mandee • November 8, 2008 @ 9:47 PM

im glad that everyone on her *except one* is against the fact that they took this law away from homosexuals. i do not believe that marriage should be consider a privilege. marriage is based only on love, and no one should have any right to say yes you can get married, but not to someone of the same sex. i have never been married, but dont you have to PAY to be married anyways? and if you do, does that mean that same sex couples’ money isnt considered the same worth as our own? either which way i think this is a pathetic low life thing to do, there should be NO LAWS against who you can marry (only what, given i read this somewhere else and it said something about people thinking it should be ok to marry their dog then??). and i have never read the bible, nor will i. i do believe in god, but i also believe he makes everyone exactly as they are meant to be. if he didnt want anyone to be homosexual, he wouldnt have made them that way. i do think that debbie on queer as folk said it best when she said :

I’ve always said it isn’t who you love, it’s how you love. Genitalia is just simply god’s way of accessorizing.

i dont think the public should have any right deciding whether or not this bothers them. imagine if the government was ONLY in favour of gay marriages and took away any straight marriages, how everyone else would feel? what a bunch of jerks. i really enjoyed reading everyones differing opinions and views on this subject (especially tributegirls) keep up the good work and one day the world will be fair for everyone that lives in it.

  29. mandee • November 8, 2008 @ 9:47 PM

    oops i meant here sorry

  30. truthteller • November 8, 2008 @ 10:21 PM

I am sorry to hear that degenerate is very upset about the decision to ban gay marriages. Frankly, I could give a rats ass what she thinks. Who made her a spokesperson for any moral issue?? Not me. And she certainly does not speak for me. So please do not include everyone in your personal “OPINIONS.”

The decision that was made relects what the people really think about moral issues. So please do not blame the government. They had nothing to do with it. The people “CHOSE!”
Just like they chose a president elect, whom by the way is not the first black president. He is HALF black and half white. Not exactly what I wanted to see but thats america for you. Always being brainwashed by hollywood and the left wing nutbar media.

I would love to answer back to almost all comments. But I cannot waste my time because it would be a fruitless and futile assignment. But I would like to speak to all the God bashers. I suggest you be very careful about what you write and say about God. You may be up for a rude awakening.

And as for sorsha’s remarks, let me just remind you that if you do all those goods things you say you do with your family, it is because the Good Lord is giving you the strengh and health to do so. Once your health is gone you may want to look to God to get back your health and strengh. So please think before you speak.

And as for letting people do what they want because “they are not hurting anyone,” this is the absolute most useless excuse that anyone can use. This is a typical liberal nutbar empty catch phrase that means absolutely nothing. And the truth is, that you are most likely are hurting someone. If it isn’t hurting you (aids etc,) it is certainly someone else.

And please folks, stop bringing religion into the discussion. It seems to me that the first people who are accused or singled out when moral issues come to the forefront are the “Christians” or “religious people.” Let me remind all the liberal nutbars that if you think that for one moment you can spew your venon into society and expect the chrisitan community to just sit back and take it all in, you have another thing coming.

Moreover, if the liberal media and liberal nutbars want to teach their futile and misguided “religion” of deception to people, we, as christians will teach the truth about those deceptions. There is no way I would just sit back and watch the nutbars hijack society with human deception and Liberal BS.

I could write more but I have to leave now.

  31. tributegirl • November 9, 2008 @ 2:05 PM

Uh, thanks mandee….I think. Am I the “except one” you mentioned? I assumed at first you meant John! Sooooo…what was it you liked about my comments?

  32. Calamity • November 9, 2008 @ 6:45 PM

Proposition 8 and it’s brethren were repugnant, through and through. But I get some hope from the fact that it only narrowly passed. Hopefully a few years from now it will be overturned.
However, the truly scary thing about abusing the constitution in this manner is what other rights are going to be taken away from what other groups of people by narrow minded bigots? Rights for mentally challenged people? Mixed marriages? Surely all “right minded” people should be legally obliged to attend a good christian church on Sundays etc. etc. This could lead anywhere. Hopefully the courts will overturn this and restore a little sanity to a place that is known for lacking it!

  33. mandee • November 9, 2008 @ 11:04 PM

tributegirl no you are not the except one. i like how you are not saying homosexuals dont have the right to get married. you simply stated they should not be allowed in a christian church, which i can understand why you or anyone else would think that, and i am not arguing it. even if you are against homosexuality, you are at least going about it the RIGHT way, but not insulting or demeaning anyone. but i do believe they have the same rights as everyone else regardless of who they are or who they love 🙂 i just reread what i originally posted, and i cant believe how many spelling mistakes i made. forgetting letters here and there i mean. i have no problem with people that are against homosexual marriages, to each their own, but i do have a problem when they degrade other humans and take away their rights just because they are different, OR they go on and on about how these people are going to hell or whatnot because the bible says so. sure you may believe in the bible, and god, and be a christian, but its not really your place to torment people based on who they love, they didnt CHOOSE to be homosexual or to be in love with someone from the same sex, it just happened.

  40. Jo-Anne • November 10, 2008 @ 11:42 PM

As usual, tribute girl, you are wrong, yet again

In your mad panic to slam me, yet again, you neglect to admit the correct pattern here.

1 – I did indeed comment on the storyline above
2 – Nancy (as always) quick as a tack trashed me (OH MY GOD, t.g. she had NO storyline comment, just a Trash Jo-Jo comment – call the Feds!)

actually, if I was at the plank and about to fall off into Crocodile Pit, forced with the choice of Nance or T.G. I would definitely chose Nance. (wee cringe) Crude as she is, she does have her own opinions and I detest a weak follower. I have never found anything of value on T.G.’s comments, and they more and more resort to lame name calling, attempts at provoking, nothing of intelligence.

I love a good debate – “big nose”???? comeback?
hold on, while I get my crayons.

  44. Demigod • November 11, 2008 @ 4:47 AM

Jo-Anne, what you mean to say is ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ is in the eyes of each individual’s RELIGIOUS beliefs. It can be a black and white issue. It’s religion that complicates things. What do you care if a gay couple choose to marry? What impact does that have on your life? They should have the right as they are tax payers too.

  45. Nancy • November 11, 2008 @ 10:12 AM

Ummm….I would shove you into that damn crocodile pit…without a doubt…..and have the biggest smile on my face while doing so!!!

Tributegirl has her own opinion on these articles and is not my follower…we both despise you. She and I seem to be cut from the same cloth. Our opinions do differ at times but we “value each others opinions” – something you wouldn’t understand, Jo. Pity your poor hubby & children…Jo’s way or the highway!

  46. Jo-Anne. • November 11, 2008 @ 1:08 PM

Demigod, and where did I say I didn’t feel Ellen or whatever gay couple shouldn’t be given that right?

What I said is what I meant, it isn’t a black and white issue, it gets down to whatever each individual feels morally is right or wrong. I have no idea what you’re on about.

  47. tributegirl • November 11, 2008 @ 1:10 PM

All right, Jo, since you are counting, here goes…
    1) I commented on the story line.
    2) I commented on the story line.
    3) I commented to mandee.
    4) You commented to Demigod and on the story line.
    5) You gave a total slam to me and Nancy.
    6) I commented to mandee, and retaliated your slam.
    7) You gave a total slam to me.
    8) You gave a total slam to me and Nancy.

That is the order of my, and your, comments on this article, and the subject matter of those comments, it’s all right here in black and white, for anyone to see.
And notice I didn’t include Nancy’s or mandee’s comments in the above list? Why? Because I am not trying to drag other people into my fights, like you constantly do.

mandee, you don’t have to pick sides, and I hope no one is making you feel that you have to. But your comment about wishing that me & Jo-anne could get along, well, read all the things she has said about me and you will see why we will never get along.

ok first off NANCY – its not considered a lie if i MISUNDERSTAND what someone is saying. and like i said ke has fingers and knows how to explain what was meant rather than have you act like youre the boss of everything and demand that im a liar and my thoughts and opinions not only dont count, but are wrong. and its a low blow to bring jos family into fights, like grow up already. and im glad to see that EVERYONE is taking my advice by not talking s*hit about anyone else 🙂 last time i checked the storyline didnt include the stupid feuding of immature people on tribute. stick to the storyline, and get over the rest of this school age crap and jo stop wasting your time trying to make tribute and nancy mad, and nancy how about the next time you disagree with something someone says, instead of insulting them, degrading them, or being a downright b*itch about it, you act like an adult and say things nicely? also, i never said anything directly RUDE about you nancy, i said i can see that everything she says youre down right rude and that maybe she should be the grown up and stop commenting to you, but as i can see shes just as childish and immature as you are, trying to drag me into the fight with her and tribute girl, who i made it quite clear that i like, and you saying rude and ignorant things because i told her she should stop talking to you. like seriously, can you read at all? and jo, seriously, dont you DARE ever try and talk bad about me or try and act like im here to defend ANYONE. i told you my opinion and you have the nerve to try and act like a jerk about the fact that i have no problems with someone that you dislike? get over it, you and nancy seem like youd make the perfect pair, youre both crazy. lol

Ok Jo,now it’s a moral issue. Well, only religious people would impose their ‘morals’ onto others. Who are they to dictate what morality is? We’re talking about a couple who love each other and want to make it official by marrying. Just like any other heterosexual couple. What moral objection would anyone have in that if not religious?

  55. Nancy • November 12, 2008 @ 9:55 AM

Mandee, if you go around saying that a person said something and it is proven to you that the person never said it at all, but yet you still say they did….IS LYING!! I never said your opinions don’t count, Mandee and if you go back to the Suri Cruise article on Nov 9 @ 6:20 pm, the first time I’ve commented about anything you wrote, I was NOT “insulting you, degrading you or being a downright b!tch” to you. I was nice to you. But you came back with a comment about me being “snippy” and “no one likes you, Nancy” “insignificant kiddie”, “you’re childish and immature”, “you only come here to cause drama”, insinuating that I don’t have a job but, oh no, you weren’t RUDE to someone who wasn’t rude to you first, right? It’s no surprise to anyone on here that Jo Jo and I haven’t liked each other for a LONG time….actually, since about the time she stated what a “bad mother” I am and that my children would be better off with their abusive, drug addicted biological father! (It’s a good thing she’s the GROWNUP, eh?)

I would sign this “The Crazy Hag”, but everyone would think that Jo Jo wrote it! 😛 LMAO!

  56. Jo-Anne. • November 12, 2008 @ 10:16 AM

mandee, get it right, you do whatever you want and so will I…there’s really no need to write an essay on our anger towards anyone

believe what you want, these two have been twisting things since day one, and I’m hardly about to go into all the many insults I have been subjected to (yes, and for simply posting my opinion on a storyline) and yet they cry the blues constantly, makes me ill.
Cuz I chose to not take them seriously and have a little fun – so what?????

the fact you take this so seriously, Mandee, is indicative of a underlying issue which I am not interested in – but get one thing clear, your insulting me now is not going to affect how I respond on this site.

  57. Nancy • November 12, 2008 @ 10:40 AM

(Again, spoken to mandee) “but get one thing clear, your insulting me now is not going to affect how I respond on this site”

Gee, if your responses on this site to other people are any indication of that, we’re in for more lies, aren’t we?

  58. mandee • November 12, 2008 @ 4:18 PM

hahahahahahahaha ok first off, jo seriously you do sound like an idiot. second if you said things like that to nancy and i was around *about her kids* i would have been all over you in a second. like i said to nancy, you dont drag other peoples family into a disagreement. and i have no underlying reasons, i just felt like being a b*itch to people, just like you did, and im just better at it than you so i can see why youd feel the need to comment about it 🙂 and everyone can see youre an easy target, otherwise people wouldnt still be picking on you. the part that made me laugh the hardest is TG and nancy calling you fish. can you tell me why they do that? they are pretty funny too. anyways, seriously, get over it, i dont care, im just bored and needed to kill some time before work. maybe if youd learn to shut your mouth every now and then you wouldnt have a reason to run around trying to make people feel SORRY for you by whining about how nancy and TG are ALWAYS saying mean things to you when you post. the more that you post, the more people can see it from THEIR point of view 🙂

  59. mandee • November 12, 2008 @ 4:19 PM

ohh and by the way this is the comment that proves that you cant get along with anyone : mandee, pick me, pick me, please pick me. meet me in the sandbox at recess and you can have all my gummy worms, pinky swear, t.g.

ohh yeah because its about time to drag mandee and tg into a fight because youre too childish to work it out with nancy yourself. 🙂 have a great day, idiot

  60. tributegirl • November 12, 2008 @ 4:28 PM

Jo-Anne, 10:16 today, AGAIN dragging me into it.
Thanks mandee, I like you too, and I also like Nancy, I know you two aren’t getting along, but that is totally between the two of you. Actually I think what I like best about you two is that you both say exactly what you think, no matter what other people think.
The reason we call her fish is because she is so easy to bait and reel in. And she’s caused so many problems that now we just do it for fun!

  61. Jo-Anne • November 12, 2008 @ 5:40 PM

boy, mandee do you have huge anger issues or what? – get a grip and feel free to continue your Anger Essays while downing your meds

  62. Kaci • November 15, 2008 @ 1:17 PM

Back to the topic here, lol 😉
I totally agree with Sorsha, I have been married 12 years and there has been no religion in my marriage. Just b/c I believe in a higher power doesn’t mean I believe in a Christian God, that has nothing to do with how well our marriage works.

Gay couples do not “hurt” or affect my life one little bit. If you think Aids is caused or spread by gay people alone (truthteller) you are lacking some education on that one and if Aids is a concern then wouldn’t married couples in a monogamous relationship make more sense? I think they should be allowed to get married, adopt children and be a productive part of the community. Gay marriages are not going to led to people marrying animals. It’s like saying someone who steals will eventually commit murder. It’s highly unlikely. Polygamy has been part of some religions long before gay marriages were an issue.

Really, I would like someone to try to convince me just how a gay couple being married to going to negatively influence my life, my community, MY values.

What happened to acceptance and tolerance? Why are gay people treated as second class citizens (rights given and taken away) and this is okay for some?

  63. mandee • November 16, 2008 @ 5:45 PM

i COMPLETELY agree with you kaci. very well written 🙂 and FISH hahahahaha no anger issues here, im just good at typing thats all. and if youre dumb enough to READ my essays *which mind you, you post more essays than i do* then thats not so much my problem. and thanks tg ! i really dont have a problem with nancy, i just figured if i have to defend myself, i may as well piss people off while im doin it 🙂 take care all.

  64. Nancy • November 16, 2008 @ 7:02 PM

“I really don’t have a problem with Nancy”

Huh-hmmm….please refer to the Suri Cruise article Mandee…..you ARE the problem!! 😛

  65. tributegirl • November 16, 2008 @ 7:32 PM

Ok you guys, I think Dr Phil would tell you to agree to disagree here! 😉

  66. Jo-Anne. • November 16, 2008 @ 8:36 PM

Mandee, you are a complete mess…does your mommy know you’re on here?

  67. tributegirl • November 16, 2008 @ 9:09 PM

    There’s the rash (Jo) again.

  68. Nancy • November 16, 2008 @ 9:33 PM

Nancy is laughing too hard to comment..heeheeheeheehee! 😛

Like shooting “fish” in a barrel!!

  69. mandee • November 16, 2008 @ 11:30 PM

actually jo, im sure that im older than you are, and more rational too. and no nancy i actually dont have a problem specifically with YOU, i have a problem with some of your posts though, and i will defend myself when needed. 🙂 man, i think someone needs to cut off jos fingers so she can stop making herself sound so stupid.

  70. Nancy • November 16, 2008 @ 11:58 PM

So, in defending yourself…you feel it necessary to tell me to “shut up you retard”???? I had written you a nice “f#ck off” comment on the Suri Cruise article but Tribute deleted it. It basically said that you did not specify Jo or myself as being the one who said something about “digging” and signing TG’s name and the way you word things sometimes makes it hard to tell and that it has been 4 days since I’ve commented to you or you to me and “shut up you retard” is the first thing you start up with me again? Then, I proceeded to say that those words from you do not help you with your “Nancy’s harassing me” case!! LOL. When you want to call ‘TRUCE’…let me know!!

  71. Nancy • November 17, 2008 @ 12:05 AM

And the thing with Jo’s fingers sounds pretty good at this point!! 😛 We would be more productive joining forces against the fish!

  72. mandee • November 17, 2008 @ 1:31 AM

lol im in 🙂 i think we would have too much fun picking on the fish. and meh, im getting bored of fighting with you anyway, we dont have anything new or interesting to say to eachother 😛

  73. tributegirl • November 17, 2008 @ 10:43 PM

So now she’ll try to get all unique or something & call us the three stooges instead of the two stooges, like she has been! Oh, she’ll love that! But she & Steven are tweedle-dum & tweedle-dummer!

  74. Nancy • November 17, 2008 @ 11:38 PM

Steven’s a GOOF!! Notice this ‘Steven’ only comments on the one article? The Sept. 19 Miley Cyrus dating a 20 year old Underwear Model article….seems FISHY doesn’t it?

Welcome aboard the fishing boat Mandee! Cast your line!! LMFAO!

  75. mandee • November 18, 2008 @ 1:22 AM

🙂 i think we are gonna have too much fun with this ! 😀

  76. Kyle • December 3, 2008 @ 1:27 AM

I personally don’t know why this is even an issue because there is supposed to be a separation of church and state. There is no reason that gay marriage should be illegal. Religion has too much power. Marriage is a human right, not a heterosexual privilege.
