Fans petition to recast 50 Shades of Grey

By Tribute on September 5, 2013 | 22 Comments

Fans of E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey have started a Change.org petition asking filmmakers to recast the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele with Matt Bomer, 36, (pictured at left) and Alexis Bledel, 31. On Monday, James announced that Charlie Hunnam, 33, and Dakota Johnson, 23, were cast in the erotic novel adaptation. Recently, author Bret Easton Ellis dismissed rumors about Matt’s contention by tweeting: “Talked to E.L. James at a party over the summer: her first choice for Christian was Rob Pattinson and Matt Bomer was never in the running.” In spite of this, fans have continued to sign the petition that was started by a user named @dontouchmypatch. As of the late afternoon yesterday, the Change.org petition had surpassed 25,000 signatures. ~Alfonso Espina

I feel that the choices for the 50 shades of gray are not good choices,

The lead man should be dreamy and as it is written in the book so very good looking you can not take your eyes off of him, this is not true of the leading man, he looks ruff and could never pull of this role with the effect it needs, the suggested cast is better and more like a dream man, and could pull it off Matt Bomer, looks the part.

The leading lady is also not a good choice the choice suggested by the fans of 50 shades of gray is Alexis Bledel, She would be perfect.

You have to consider the audiances and who is reading the books and do more research, this could be a real money maker but if not cast propertly would flop at the box office.

I agree Matt Boomer is Christian Grey and Alexis Bledel is Anastasia Steele

I think the girl cast as Ana is a good fit, but I think that Christian should be someone better looking and pretty boyish

I can’t believe anyone with an ounce of intelligence would be interested in who represents these characters in some of the worst books I have ever read in my life. They were total garbage and as far as I am concerned…Hugh Heffner and Hilary Clinton could play the parts believably. There was nothing dreamy and boyish about the character Christian, he’s a creep and Ana was an idiot!! Read all three books and have already deleted them from my Kobo…waste of my time.

Give it up, they’re not going to change now that it’s been announced and nobody cares who plays what in this trashy movie. Not surprising no one with a name wanted to take on these roles. These two probably signed on so they could get some recognition, not because the movie’s going to be good or something they’re not embarrassed to have been in later on.

Someone should make a Change.org petition to get the idiots that read and liked the books some counselling. The story was terrible as was the writing structure. Twilight and the Babysitters Club were written at a higher caliber, and read by more intelligent people (children and teenagers) as well.

Really? Use your time for something more important. Who cares? People hated the idea of Daniel Craig (a blonde bond!!!!???) and then he blew all their stupid notions out of the water. Have you seen Charlie Hunnum clean cut? He’s beautiful! And I’m sorry but sitting through an Alexis Bledel movie is like sitting through a Kristen Stewart film. Excruciating. I can only handle so much monotone. If people really want to petition something, petition something of worldly importance. Not “exotic” tripe like 50 Shades (and I agree with Mary Auld) the books weren’t even that good and certainly weren’t revolutionary in their story telling. Grow up people.

Fan(anatics) are funny. Don’t you have anything else to worry about than you is chosen to play your favorite characters? I wish I had your life, sounds like you don’t have more pressing problems.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. Years from now, it won’t matter much.

Agree Oeill on the beautiful Charlie comment. Same re Alexis comment. Despised the books but would see the movie solely on the actor choice. The books, much as many such as myself profess to dislike, had astounding success solely in sales, so obviously a huge population were curious enough to plow through the pages….

    Oh NO that’s so mean!

Can you imagine these actor’s excitement over this big break and finally becoming famous?

Only to lay awake at night wondering if the role will be taken back from you tomorrow?

may the best man win! but i dont think they will recast it. they wouldn’t announce it if it wasnt signed.

  13. mitch • September 5, 2013 @ 9:19 PM

AHHH….No matter who gets cast…bet the movie will still suck. Folks, look up “9 1/2 Weeks” starring Kim Basinger. Same sort of plotline. Ugh!! That was 90 minutes of my life I still haven’t gotten back.

Every girl that has read 50 Shades of Grey pictures the perfect man who was born too wear a suit and tie and that’s exactly what Matt Bomer is. Their is no denying that Charlie Hunnam is good looking but his no Christian Grey his more like his brother. Matt Bomer is and will always be Christian Grey.

  15. quinn • September 6, 2013 @ 12:06 AM

Charlie will be awesome. I can’t wait.He is the one true Christian Grey

  16. dee56 • September 6, 2013 @ 9:47 AM

I agree with the readers who said who cares… the books are trash – I just couldn’t read them. Give me something with thrills, spills and chills, not this pornographic drivel… The characters are stupid!!! The movie will probably rot your brain, too.

  17. My Opinion • September 7, 2013 @ 4:53 PM

Thousands (maybe millions who bought the book) of 50 Shades fans loved the book and look forward to seeing the movie. But to all those who signed a petition, I agree Matt Bomer & Alexis would be perfect for the lead roles. But Charlie & Dakota have probably signed already & therefore the producers cannot break their contract without paying expensive penalties.

So we’re stuck with Charlie & Dakota. Unfortunately for them, because of the numerous complains of fans not wanting them, they will have to over exceed fans expectations otherwise their acting careers will take a dive for the worst.

To all of the haters, find something else to b***h about. PLEASE!
Nobody asked your opinion, nor do we care!
This is only about the FANS opinions! MOST of us work 12 hours
a day, 6 days a week! All we want is a great movie
that coensides with the books we love!
Having an opinion about a movie, has no bearing on my
intelligence, my business, or my degrees!
Log on to FOX news, there are plenty of WORTHY topics to gripe about. 😉

  19. Sol • September 12, 2013 @ 1:14 PM

I’m sorry, “fans”, but when has it ever been any of your f***ing business who gets casted in a movie?! I think this sets a dangerous precedent – art is not something to be decided by consensus (even something as artless as “50 Shades of Grey”) – why would people even THINK they should have a say in casting. You don’t know ANYTHING about contract negotiations, scheduling, etc. This is mind-boggling, and frankly, if change.org wants to maintain any credibility it needs to shut down bullshit petitions like this one.

You don’t like the casting? Vote with your wallets AFTER the movie has been released. Until then shut the hell up – what’s next? You going to go on set and complain about the lighting?

  20. Sol • September 12, 2013 @ 1:16 PM

Would like to add, I don’t give two shits about “50 Shades of Grey” – I will never read the books or watch the movies – but I am passionate about films and art in general and that’s what this issue, and my anger, is about.

  21. Tina • September 12, 2013 @ 4:36 PM

I think the choice they made was perfect, we need to see fresh faces in the movies and not always the same stereotypical, dark hair and dashing, 50 Shades Of Grey, Charlie Hunnam (dark sexy side & strong features Mmmm) Dakota Johnson (intelligent and innocent) are the perfect choice and these books were fantastic as long as you’re not a prude. I enjoyed them, and hope to see more from the author.
