George Clooney’s dog loves Italian food

George ClooneyGeorge Clooney‘s dog loves Italian food.

The actor adopted cocker spaniel Einstein – an obese stray who was due to be put down – from a crowded animal shelter in 2010 and is delighted he has been able to give the pooch a ”beautiful life,” taking his canine companion with him when he travels the world, including to his estate on Lake Como.

George quipped: ”He’s grown to love Italian food.”

Einstein was five years old when he was taken in by The Monuments Men  star, and it is often harder for older dogs to find a home, but George insists it was more practical for him than taking on the care of a puppy.

He explained in new book My Old Dog: Rescued Pets With Remarkable Second Acts: ”He was house-trained and had a great attitude. Age doesn’t matter.”

George has previously admitted he was nervous the dog wouldn’t like him when they first met, and resorted to desperate measures to win over the pooch.

He said: ”I start to panic that Einstein is not going to like me. So I run into the kitchen, where I have these turkey meatballs, and I rub them all over my shoes. Who knew Einstein was such a food wh**e on top of everything? He throws himself at my feet.”

Last week, George and wife Amal adopted a basset hound named Millie, who joined Einstein and their other dog Louie in their family.

The couple – who tied the knot in a lavish Italian ceremony in 2014 – took the four-year-old basset hound from the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society in California.

The humane society shared a photograph on its Facebook page of the couple with Millie and Louie, 10, who they rescued in March.

SGVHS wrote: ”ADOPTED! Millie was adopted by George Clooney and his wife Amal!! Millie, a bassett hound, now has a new brother named Louie who is also a rescue! Congratulations and thank you for adopting!!”

It’s really sweet that they’re rescuing dogs. Too many people get them from breeders. You’re helping no one by doing that, except putting money in the pockets of people who live off forcing female dogs to bear puppies.
