Hollywood Casting News: book-to-movie adaptations

By Tribute on May 26, 2014 | 3 Comments

Book-to-movie adaptations seem to be a continuing trend in Hollywood, with updates on five book-to-movie adaptations. Jude Law is set to play Thomas Wolfe in an upcoming Max Perkins biography. The biopic is based on the book Max Perkins: Editor of Genius, written by A. Scott Berg. Max Perkins was a New York Times reporter who became a famous literary editor, credited with editing works such as The Great Gatsby, The Old Man and The Sea and The Sun Also Rises. Colin Firth will play Max Perkins.

Amanda Seyfried has been cast as Mary in Joe Wright’s Pan – a live action movie about Peter Pan. The movie is currently filming and is set for a 2015 release. It will star Levi Miller as Peter, Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily and Hugh Jackman as Blackbeard. Amanda and Hugh previously worked on Les Misérables, which earned Hugh his first Oscar nomination.

Peter Pan is not the only children’s book to get a big screen adaptation. Steven Spielberg is set to direct a live action version of BFG. BFG, or Big Friendly Giant, is a book by Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) about a girl named Sophie, who meets a giant one night.

Doug Liman, who directed The Bourne Identity, is in talks to direct Railhead, based on an upcoming book by Philip Reeve about trains that run through space. Another book in the process of being adapted is The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, about a young writer trying to solve a 33-year-old murder. Ron Howard is set to direct. ~Dylan Paisley
