Idris Elba ‘too street’ to play James Bond says author

Idris Elba at the Mandela, My Dad and Me..........Anthony Horowitz is the latest novelist to add a chapter to Ian Fleming’s great character, James Bond.

In a recent interview with The Daily Mail, Horowitz, who wrote the upcoming release Trigger Mortis: A James Bond Novel, said actor Idris Elba is “a bit too rough” to play 007. He insisted his comment wasn’t “a color issue.”

“I think he is probably a bit too street for Bond,” he said. “Is it a question of being suave? Yeah.”

The novelist then took to bashing the latest Bond film, Skyfall“If you have to protect the head of MI6 from a madman, do you take her to a Scottish farmhouse with no weapons? And tell your bad guy where you are, so he will arrive with six people to kill her? It’s that sort of thing that made me angry.”

After all was said and done Horowitz received a lot of backlash on social media and released this statement via his Twitter account (below). ~Greg Chisholm

Elba is a fine actor, but Ian Fleming didn’t create a black secret agent.

This society has become so PC that it is sickening!!!
Horowitz has no reason to apologise. Many of us will boycott any film featuring a black James Bond.
What’s next? — a white Shaft?!?!?! A Pakistani Sherlock Holmes?!?!?

What’s the difference who plays bond. Elba is an actor and a very good one. Colour doesn’t figure into it. Don’t forget that men used to play women not long ago. Get over it

How about we make the next Bond movie with a f**king baby as the lead role!??? I mean, it was never specified that Bond was NOT a baby, right???

So no reason Tom Cruise couldn’t play Kunta Kinte in a ROOTS remake…

People freaked out over a blonde James Bond and Daniel Craig dominated that role. Clearly defining the physical role is irrelevant. I think a black actor just might shake things up and surprise everyone.

Again, no reason Tom Cruise wouldn’t make a fine Kunta Kinte. And since defining the physical role is, as you say, irrelevant, Anne Hathaway would make a great James Bond…

So let me get this straight, its ok for them to cast black to play Felix, but God forbide they cast a black to play Bond. Get over it, stop judging someone because of the colour of their skin, if Idris can pull off being Bond then I say he deserves a fair shot! Who cares if he is White, Black Yellow, Green, or has stripes like a damn Zebra, if he can pull of playing Bond then he should play Bond!

wtf!??! seriously, people need to take a CHILL PILL!! How about letting the fans choose the next James Bond role? That’s a fair choice for everyone! No feelings hurt!!!
