Jackson doctor investigated for manslaughter

Dr. Conrad Murray, who was the doctor present in Michael Jackson’s home when the singer went into cardiac arrest on June 25, is being investigated for manslaughter, according to two sealed search warrants filed July 23. Yesterday morning his Houston clinic was searched by agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration, LAPD Robbery Homicide detectives and Houston Police Department officers, according to Murray’s attorney, Ed Chernoff. “We reviewed the warrant and remained on the premises while the search was being executed,” Chernoff said in a statement. “The search warrant authorized law enforcement to search for and seize items, including documents, they believed constituted evidence of the offense of manslaughter.” Among the items taken were a “forensic image of a business computer hard drive” and 21 documents. Murray, who has been suspended from practicing at the Doctors Hospital in Houston, is believed to have administered the singer with a lethal dose of Propofol on June 25. ~Alexandra Heilbron

Is anybody actually surprised with this?
I have always felt that something was not quite right about the whole situation. Is it possible that there is an underlying group who paid this doctor to administer these drugs, so his estate value would grow??
Yes, I am surprised. Although there is a possibility someone played a part in the death, why do so many people jump to the conclusion that is the case?

This whole situation has me very upset. Michael had a God given talent he was the Elvis of our time. I still can not believe he is gone. Talk about denial…omg I felt something was not right about his death. God only knows how his children are going to deal with all this.
I’m not surprized at all. Honestly, I think M.J wanted to die and asked his physician for help with assisted suicide…terrible to say, but true. If Dr. Kevorkian was out of prison, he probably would’ve done it for the right price.
In every interview I’ve ever seen with Michael Jackson, he said he wanted to live forever. I seriously doubt he wanted to die at the age of 50 with 3 minor children to care for.
The Dr. will most likely be found at fault due to the fact that he provided the Diprovan but, the fact still remains that Michael Jackson wanted the drug in the first place. He supposedly wanted to be knocked out or “mummified” for 72 hours at a time. I personally don’t believe that the Diprovan alone killed him, I think mixing it with the other drugs in his system did the trick. I heard today that this Dr had Prince Michael 1 play witness to the CPR he conducted on MJ. Poor kid! Having to stand there and watch. All because Dr. Dummy tried to protect his own @$$!
Although I’m not a big fan of the MJ of the last 10 years, he was a big part of my growing up. I am still shocked that we’ve lost a icon of the music industry. But, the sensationalism of his death has gone too far. While suspicious, I think the ultimate cause of death was misadventure. Perhaps he really did need to sleep after all his hard work, and I can see him as the little rich boy who makes things happen regardless of the cost. Unfortunately his quest for sleep, and his insistence that his doctor administer the sedative lead to his fatality. He just wasn’t as invincible as he may have thought.

This does not surprise me either, as they did the same thing to Anna Nicole Smith’s Dcotor’s (but it took them long enough, that’s for sure, especially when the female Dr. admitted to giving her a long list of drugs on TV, you would think she would NOT be proud of this fact and would have kept her mouth shut, but both her and Anna’s lawyer were both charged.) But Michael was an adult and he COULD HAVE TOLD HIS DOCTORS that he did NOT want to take so many drugs, the decision was in his hands in the end, but I do not believe that he wanted to kill himself, but I guess that is what happens when you take SO many different drugs, you’re more apt to killing yourself or overdosing by accident!! It’s a real shame as he was taken TOO soon and I do NOT believe that he wanted to die as he adored his kids!!
I absolutely believe the doctor should face charges if he administered Propofol. But if he was allowing (requesting) said medication, then Michael is also to blame for his own death. It would seem from reports that he had a problem with presciption drugs. He was an adult and chose to do this. He knew the consequences. Several friends and family have admitted he struggled with addictions and the news also reports that he had entered rehab at least once in his life. I’m sure as wonderful a dad as he wanted to be…his children didn’t have as idyllic a life as we are led to believe. Living with any kind of addict is a emotional rollercoaster for their family. Hopefully, the facts will be found out and will end speculation. I had to admire Heath Ledger’s dad when he pointed out the obvious. Heath as an adult chose to be careless with prescription meds and as such…unwittingly perhaps…”caused” his own death. We all need to be careful (and proactive in guarding our health) when it comes to prescription drugs. Add to the regular risk for addiction, pain and/or the pressures of fame…and it’s an “accident” waiting to happen.

Agreed, aprilshowers, but then again, I would think it would be very hard for an addict to tell his doctors that he didn’t want medication.
Dianne, I agree with you 100%. The dr shouldn’t have, but he (MJ) should’ve known, the family could’ve stepped in more, threaten the dr if he was over-prescribing.
And this is a powerful family (money = power) and I’m sure it would be hard to say no if anyone in this family wanted something, even if you knew morally it was not the right thing to do.
MJ was paying the doctor $150,000 per month to live there and make sure he was okay. MJ obviously had a problem getting sleep. That doesn’t make him a drug addict or incapable of caring for his kids, as someone commented in another article. I have always had a problem sleeping, even as a child, and going to school/work the next day after 3 hours of sleep was really hard, even saying good morning to people seemed to take a lot of energy. A doctor prescribed a mild sedative for me about 10 years ago, and now I can finally fall asleep & get 8 hours of sleep a night and feel rested. I don’t consider myself a drug addict and I function normally (more normally than when I didn’t get enough sleep).
It seems that MJ took prescription drugs to get some rest. Obviously a mild sedative didn’t work for him as it does for me, and he went to something stronger. However, he should not have been given Propofol – and that is the doctor’s fault, not MJs. If someone asks for a drug that isn’t safe and that shouldn’t be used for that particular purpose, the doctor should say no and suggest something else. MJ paid that doctor a lot of money to administer him with a sleeping aid and make sure he was okay, not kill him.
If his negligence and/or irresponsibility as a doctor killed Michael Jackson, I hope he is barred from practising medicine forever.
No matter what way you look at it, IF the doctor that was living there had of called 911 when Michael first went into arrest, rather than try himself for TOO LONG (to NO avail) BEFORE CALLING, we might STILL have Michael with us, which makes me think even more, that the doctor DEFINITELY should be the one at fault here!! Even if Michael HAD asked for that drug, the doctor, knowing all the other drugs he was taking WOULD HAVE KNOWN THE RISK Michael was taking IF he took that drug as well, so I say it’s the Doctors fault for sure, (UNLESS Michael administered the drug to himself, than it would be accidental overdose!!!) Either way you look at it, it’s like seeing Elvis die all over again, as it was the drugs that did it in the end!! How sad!!
Kendal: I was the one who called Michael Jackson a “drug addict” in another article. Wait until you see the list of drugs he was taking from his autopsy…then tell me “that doesn’t make him a drug addict or incapable of caring for his children”. I also never said he was “incapable of caring for his children”. I said I think he was under the influence of narcotics while in the presence of people including his children. I believe that he had nannies who did most of the “caring” for those kids…but I could be wrong there.

I was like you as a kid (as I read all my diaries I wrote when I was younger) and every day I would say how tired I was because I could NEVER fall asleep at night, it would take HOURS for me to finally fall asleep! I read about people’s genetics when it comes to sleeping and there are day and night people and I’m DEFINITELY a night person, even when I worked a day job, I hated getting up and was SO tired until about noon, so I know exactly how you felt and also how Michael must have felt as I could NOT wait until I could finally fall asleep when I went to bed without tossing and turning for hours!! There’s nothing more frustrating then when you are unable to fall asleep!!
I can’t believe M.J. had no idea of the dangers of all the drugs he was taking. How come ppl aren’t expected to take responsibility for their own lives and it always has to be someone else’s fault for what happens to them? None of his drugs were force fed.
Fraydeecat, I agree with you as well, nobody seems to take responsibility anymore. It’s always someone else’s fault. And maybe he was a hypochondriac, who knows? When we go to the dr, we have to realize that this person has a lot of education and knowledge (hopefully) but he/she is not God and we should be questioning, and sometimes pushing when needed for more information. This person who is our medical caregiver is not exempt from errors.
Me too, aprilshowers, people used to say I wasn’t really “with it” until after lunch. I’m so grateful to my doctor for giving me a prescription so I could live a normal life. Nancy, has the autopsy been released? I didn’t think it had been yet. I know he had a nanny but since he rarely performed in the past few years, he may well have spent a lot of time with his kids. We don’t have all the facts right now, but if he was taking medication to get sleep, that doesn’t make him a drug addict. Carol, I think when you’re paying a doctor $150k per month, you’re probably trusting him to give you the correct medication so you can rest, and that he won’t give you a dose that will kill you. MJ knew he needed something stronger than most people, but if he hired this guy to watch over what he was taking/to administer his doses, likely he knew that if it was left to him, he might make a mistake and wind up like Heath Ledger. Unfortunately, he seems to have hired an incompetent.
Kendal: I don’t believe that the autopsy results have been released yet but it was reported about all the prescriptions that were there. Michael was also no stranger to rehab. His family have also said that they tried to get him to stop taking the drugs. When an addict takes all these uppers and downers, it’s no wonder they have trouble sleeping. Supposedly though, it has been reported that Michael wanted to be mummified for 3 days at a time…no movement, no disturbance, no waking. I don’t recall mention of sleeping problems but I could be wrong. I do believe that the Dr. or Dr’s who provided all these drugs are at fault for his addiction and his death but Michael himself is as much to blame…he had a problem…he was an addict for many years.
Kendal, I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. Regardless of what he is getting paid, would you really say “no” to Michael Jackson if he wanted something. Now I know a lot of you will say that you probably would step back and not give him the meds, but you honestly do not know what you would do when you are employed by a powerful family like this. I’m sure MJ trusted him, but also, I’m sure he had a lot of say/pull as to what this dr did for him.
I have a doctor in my family and she took an oath to save people, not to risk their health. In no way would she ever give anyone something that would be dangerous to their lives, whether it’s Michael Jackson or the President of the U.S. Doctors are rarely celebrity sycophants, they’re educated people who often don’t know who celebrities are, they don’t have time to follow entertainment news, let alone fawn over them and put their practice in danger because one superstar is asking for something ridiculous. And there have been doctors who’ve said no to MJ, if what I’ve been reading is true.
Yes, Moviefan, your first line is the way it “should” be but not all docs meet this criteria. My own personal experiences have been good and bad, but when you’re speaking of medicine, if it’s bad it CAN be very bad…
I had a doc give me heart medication when I had acid reflux (yes, I was tested!), pharmacist refused to fill prescription saying it was totally INCORRECT and unadvisable, I was shocked when they explained what he was prescribing for me. Another doc put me under general anaesthetic, totally ignoring my voice – “Hey, you may wanna check, the cyst is gone, hey, listen,
you may wanna check….” put me out only to have me come to with a puzzled nurse “I don’t understand, they did nothing to you….says cyst was gone…” I don’t do well with anaesthetic and was sick for a number of days…for nothing….and it goes on….
To suggest docs are educated, thus don’t get into celebrity info – A) are you implying those who enjoy celebrity news are uneducated? I believe there are many educated medical personnel who enjoy a tidbit or two or maybe even three of celebrity news, no doubt some even more than their bus driver neighbour. (no intended jab at bus drivers of the word, just making a point)
And I’d be willing to bet that the only doc on this planet who hasn’t heard of MJ perhaps resides on Attu Island, population 20…
Jo-Anne, that is disgusting, those are the types of docs you never want to go back to again. You were very lucky that your pharmacist was paying attention. My great aunt was sick one time, given a prescription, got it filled, took it as prescribed, then took a terrible turn. Her son took her to the hospital, they did lots of bloodwork, and called in the police, they thought he was poisoning her. He gave them all her medications, and that one prescription that she had gotten recently filled, had the wrong medication IN the bottle! The pharmacist gave her warfarin, which she did not need, and she was taking it in extremely high doses, thinking it was something else. She almost died, but did end up severely and permanently damaged, and spent the last number of years in a nursing home because of the pharmacists error. She mercifully passed away recently.

WOW, put this on the calandar, I agree with Jo-anne…I mean, look at all the people who are on numerous drugs…it’s not just the elderly who are taking 15-20 pills a day, it’s everyone now, and one counteracts another, so yes, Moviefan, they do take an oath, but unfortunately I think they do things which are wrong. When someone takes that many drugs a day, when does the dr step back and say “hey, something is not right here”. I know a woman in her early 50’s who takes about 14 pills a day, is that right? Is that in her best interest? I don’t know the whole medical history, but I do know there is a point where this is too much. And in Canada I know the dr’s and nurses are all pushed to the limits, not enough staff, too many patients, etc, and it is easier to prescribe pills than really look at the problem.
Another issue I see is the “illness of the month”. If 5 people walk in and have similiar symptoms, well they are all diagnosed with the same thing, given the same medicine (depending on alergies and such of course), but what is chronic fatique for one could be lime disease for another. They don’t have the time or resources to always do what is honestly in our best interests. I’m fortunate and count my blessings that my family is quite healthy and at this point in our lives we haven’t had to concern ourselves with much. But I work with the public and in my job I’ve heard a lot and I see that a lot of people get the same treatment and it just doesn’t add up to my medically uneducated mind.
And don’t get me wrong, I’m not blaming the dr’s and nurses. Like any of us, they are only human and can only work with what they have available to them.
I don’t take half the crap Dr’s prescribe/try to prescribe me. My liver is important to me. If I wanted to screw it up, I’d just get drunk every day but instead, I rarely ever drink alcohol either. I agree with Tributegirl, that sometimes the patient has to tell the Dr. what they want or need. I sometimes have to with my Dr….dentist too. Pill pushers is all they are. Have you ever been sitting in your Dr’s office when one of the pharmaceutical reps comes in, with his big fat briefcase full of samples for the doc? “The more you prescribe, the more we sell. The more we sell, the bigger your cut.”

I agree to with that Nance and TG, we definitely do have our pill pushers, and I don’t know if it starts with them not having the time/resources, and then as they become more experienced/wealthy they learn that yes, pushing pills does bring in cash faster. I think there are a lot of reasons, and that is why I think even though they take an oath, we ultimately are responsible. Now, in saying that, negligence is a whole other issue…just have to put that in there before anyone else does. You educate yourself on your body, what works, what doesn’t, with the internet we have a lot of resources if something seems wrong. In an emergency, of course, that falls by the wayside.

Sorry to heart about your unfortunate problems with Dr’s etc. as I have been in the same boat and because of it have lived the last 20 plus years in chronic pain because of doctors negligence and suffer from many things as a result of it!! Even when I TOLD the doctor that he could not go near an area that had been previously problematic and took over a year to fix, he severed the whole area and now I suffer from the same thing but this time, it CANNOT be fixed and so I have to suffer because he did not listen!! I tell you, the healthcare here is scary, and that is why the health care in the U.S., since you have to pay for it, has much better doctors!! That I learnt the long and hard way!!
As for the person who was, as usual, totally HEARTLESS to your blog, what’s new, as she always is. I guess she has NEVER had to suffer any pain or she might be more compassionate!!
I am really sorry to hear of your situation aprilshowers, and like you, I feel many docs here DO NOT listen when the patient speaks. I have reams of stories of medical issues and also have seen firsthand thru my work, they far too many times get away with negligence at the cost of their patient’s suffering, sometimes for a lifetime as a result of their “educated handiwork”….
on the other hand, I feel compelled to say I have had very good medical experiences as well and have met more than one truly remarkable professional.
Unforunately it’s the “misguided” ones that remain with us much longer in our minds due to their mistakes we’ve endured that have affected our health adversely.
I even had one doc ask me if I was a lesbian (yes, I was married with 3 kids) cuz he had a former married patient who apparently turned gay recent to my visit, he was totally absorbed with this and shocked he said, and he thought I seemed to have “too many girlfriends I socialized with frequently” hahaha! Then when I denied it and told him he was unbelieveably unethical, he taunted me “Why are you getting so defensive then?” Imagine that? A true professional.
You seem like a very compassionate person yourself and I hope your medical issues can be remedied one day and your dealings with medical personnel prove to be of a much higher calibre than those of your past….take care

I had a long response for you as I got very upset with my response (as the history is SO long and NOT good) but all I say for now is thanks for the kind words and I’m NOT telling this for a pity party, far from that, just to tell you my HORRIFIC experiences with doctors (which I’ll tell you later when I have more time.)

I’m sure we’ve all had our fair share of “pain”, Aprilshowers…maybe some more than others but what was it you said to me before? Something about “karma”?? Why would I show compassion to either of you? I think if your Dr. does not listen to you, the onus is on you to either get her/his full attention or go to someone who will listen. When all else fails, a nice letter to the College of Physicians and Surgeons might suffice. I would also like to add that Canada does have some very good Dr.’s and specialists and a most enviable healthcare program. Sure beats paying out of pocket!

I NEVER, EVER asked for your compassion (or opinion), DID I, so go pick on someone else on the blog!! You do not have a frigging clue what I’ve gone through and when I tell my doctor something, he was listening, what do you want me to do, stay awake during surgery and ask him if he’s going near the place where I told him to stay away from? Of COURSE NOT, so I HAVE TO TRUST that my Doctor WILL LISTEN AND DO HIS JOB, but not all doctors do, and believe me, I KNOW!! Some doctors I have had experiences with have been great but the ones that have screwed up, obviously were NOT, any idiot can come to that conclusion!! Patients cannot police what surgeons do to them when they go under, they have to trust them and put their lives in their hands and when you search and search and get referrals, and they screw up your life, do you honestly think that I just sat around and did nothing about it? NOT ME!! You think you know everything, but do not surmise that you know ME or what I did, as you do NOT and never will!!
The only reason everyone in Canada likes our health care system is because it is FREE, but ask people who are close to death or are suffering like mad about the long wait to get to see specialists or to get a bed in a hospital for an operation that depends on saving their life and ask them how they feel, and I’m sure they’d agree with me. Our health system is far from GREAT, believe me I know this for a fact, so perhaps you should speak on subjects that you know more about, rather than run your mouth off like you always do, like verbal diarrhea, (to which I do not think there is a cure) when you have no idea about what I’ve done in the past several years!! So why don’t you just mind your own business as I wasn’t even talking to you, as if that has ever stopped you before, you ignoramus!!

I am in TOTAL agreement with you re doctor comments and have a friend who went thru something very similar, now walks with a “shorter leg” – even when she “spoke up” in her loudest voice possible, took doc on at court…guess what????? The hospital “lost” her file…. I have a lot of info re hospital, doc screw-ups and in ALL the cases the med side won….huge surprise….not!!!!!!!!!
I am really sorry you had to suffer like this, it is unfair and unacceptable but there doesn’t seem to be a clear way around this, the medical profession does hold the aces..

No, Nancy, you aren’t the only one who noticed this, I find it funny that when one person gets on your case, suddenly there are a bunch of new names who are all over you as well, and seem to “know” you, so I also think that it is often one person using multiple names. It’s happened before, quite a few times. And yes, there are always things that are similar in the posts, things that make me feel quite sure it is one person. One thing that I find that is similar is that they bash Nancy, and don’t seem to have any comment on the subject of the article.

I’ve personally finished talking to her as you said it all perfectly in your last post, she thrives off of an audience to listen to her crap, and when I told you what I did, it certainly did NOT warrant all the ignorant feedback from her, but I am able to rise above it and so do you, no wonder we get along. I’m glad that I do NOT belong to YOU TUBE as I cannot be bothered with such things and simply never use the website unless someone sends me a URL to a video for me to watch, so lucky for me I won’t have to watch anything Nancy made for me (and I’m so sad about that, LOL!!)

Did you see Michael Jackson’s crime scene on TV (his bed and bedroom)? I could NOT believe what I saw!! It looked like a drug addicts bedroom for sure!! An incontinence pad on the bed (so obviously he was preparing to sleep for QUITE awhile otherwise he could have gotten up to go to the washroom, SAD!!) Even though most people are saying that the doctor that administered this drug to him should be held accountable, at the same time, Michael obviously knew what the drug did or he would not have PREPARED himself in case of an ACCIDENT (peeing the bed)! I think it was BOTH of their faults and with a GOOD lawyer I would not be surprised if the doctor gets off, even though he should not be dispensing this drug, Michael asked for the drug (and his housekeeper/nurse also said that he had asked her to do it and she refused,) so I believe that saying that Michael was totally innocent is not the complete truth BUT I guess we’ll NEVER know the WHOLE truth since he is no longer with us!! What a shame, but hopefully his death will bring “DRUGS” and their consumption of them to the forefront and teach people a lesson and hopefully we will not lose anyone else to this problem (one can hope??!!)

Number 1 you can’t go to the neighborhood drugstore with a perscription to obtain this drug profofol.Number 2 the only place it’s used is in hospital operating room.Number 3 doctor must of stold drug from hospital,that make’s him guilty as hell of more than one offence.Conclusion contaminated drugs,stolden from hospital,equal’s jail time in my book’s for numerous charges!!!
Since he is a Doctor, they usually are associated with a hospital, so he would have access to the drug!! I saw on CNN the crime scene (his bedroom) and there was syringes, pill bottles on his night stand and a pad (in case you pee during the night), and much more, a scene from someone who was obviously struggling with a drug problem.
Also, Michael KNEW what he was taking and the dangers involved, that is why his nurse denied him, so he’s just as much at fault in my eyes!!

My point was a doctor obviously started him on this particular drug. Operating room’s are not open to the public,therefore there’s no reason for a doctor to take said drug out of the operating room,unless the doctor was stealing it, and i believe that is a crime in itself.

There are a lot of people who are unfortunately not able to get out of bed (who also have live in nurses), hence their family doctor comes to their home, so this would allow the doctor to get whatever drugs they needed for their patient and bring it to them, M.J. NOT being one that could not get out of bed, but had a doctor that could easily get anything he wanted and make up any one of different reasons as to why he needed it and get away with it!!

Never have I heard of any doctor performing surgery on a patient at home, or in pallative care unit’s. That’s why they transport patient to hospital “RE use of sterile operating room” where use of “PROPOFOL IS USED OR ATTAINABLE”.I should also add is so powerful that the “anesthetic is rarely used” by doctor’s, as pointed out by “specialist” on recent TV interview.Therefore there is no reason a doctor can give to take “PROPOFOL” out of “HOSPITAL” SETTING.

Do you remember “Please sir, can I have some more?” (the famous line from the movie “Oliver” when the little kid asks for more food?) because I loved this movie and even bought it later in life to hopefully show my kids someday, and I must say, he really does look like Paris (I should say Paris really has his features and resembles him quite a bit,) so now he wants to find out if he is the real father, and I’ll be one that will be curious to find out!!

actaully shauna, I beg to differ, they obviously CAN tell people by simply removing their posts at their whim, which to me is the same thing…they hold all the cards
exactly, april…though like I said a post ago, still inconsistent….if you were threatening people in a vile manner, using extremely profane language, etc., okay, okay, but for people being “impolite”…unless you’re an impressionable minor, let’s face it, we are all adults here, willingly (and that’s the key word) coming on here to post and have our own, (impolite as it obviously was to the card holders) kind of fun…

It’s hard to be polite to everyone, especially when you are not even responding to them and they constantly throw insults back at you, like Nancy did ALL the time, and not acting like adults!! I do prefer the civil way, but desperate times call for desperate measures, LOL!!
joanne if they hold all the cards they have to be equal with every one. if every one has to use a name then comments under name of duh are a no no and if ones comments are deleted for not bein polite than all impolite comments need to go not just some
that’s why I said they hold all the cards, Shauna…they do not have to be equal with everyone, they CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT WHEN THEY WANT TO WHO THEY WANT, that is what holding ALL the cards means…
