Jaden Smith wants to be emancipated from his parents

Jaden Smith, 14, has a birthday on July 8 and he wants a surprising gift from his parents: to leave their house and live on his own. The young son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith has followed in his parents’ footsteps and become an actor. He starred in The Karate Kid remake and appears with his father in After Earth, in theaters on May 31. Apparently, along with a rising career, Jaden would appreciate a little independence. His famous father recently revealed to The Sun in the U.K. that Jaden wants to be emancipated from his parents and to live in his own house. Although Will has his reservations, he says, “If kids just want to have command of their lives, I understand.” The response goes along with Will and Jada’s “modern” parenting style but there’s no word yet on whether Jaden’s birthday wish will actually be granted. ~ Cassie Jasinski
