Marvel announced this morning that they have cast James Spader as Ultron in the upcoming Avengers sequel, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Spader, who first gained prominence playing a stuffy, rich teenage bully in Pretty in Pink, starring Molly Ringwald is best known for his regular role as Alan Shore in the TV series Boston Legal and The Practice. From 2011 to 2012 he played Robert California on the comedy series The Office. Ultron, an automaton, first appeared in the 1968 comic Avengers #54 and was a regular villain through the years in the Avengers series. He was created by Hank Pym – aka Ant-man – who will not be appearing in the sequel. The Avengers: Age of Ultron opens May 1, 2015.
