Jerry Seinfeld best paid comedian according to Forbes

Jerry SeinfieldComedian Jerry Seinfeld, 61, is well known for his funny bone. But he is also an actor, writer, and producer. So it comes as no surprise to hear that Forbes magazine has listed him as the world’s highest-paid comedian. From June 2014 to June 2015, this funny guy earned $36 million.

And no, not all of that was made from stand-up. In 1988, Seinfeld created a little show called Seinfeld with Larry David. In it, he played a semi-fictional version of himself. The show ran for 10 years, ending in 1998 and has been as popular in syndication as it was during its initial run. Much of his incredible earnings stem from that show. Hulu recently acquired streaming rights and paid a hefty $160 million which added to Seinfeld’s annual take.

Coming in second on the list is Kevin Hart, who earned $28.5 million for the year. Just like Seinfeld before him, this comedian also worked Hollywood for dough. Movies include The Wedding Ringer and Get Hard.

Having residency in Las Vegas, as long as you don’t gamble away everything you have, can really make your year and then you get to be named to this list. Both Terry Fator, a comedic ventriloquist who got his start on America’s Got Talent, and Jeff Dunham were lucky enough to have been in that position. Fator brought in a sweet $21.5 million, while Dunham came in just under the $20 million mark with a (still cool) $19 million.

Canadian funnyman Russell Peters also earned $19 million. Part of that income was money earned as a judge on NBC’s Last Comic Standing.

Next on the list is Aziz Ansari. You may know him from his Parks and Recreation portrayal of Tom Haverford. He got a seven-figure advance for his book Modern Romance, which helped him make the list, coming in just shy of the $10 million mark at $9.5 million. We are sure he isn’t complaining.

Rounding out the top 10 on Forbes’ list are Louis C.K. with $9 million, Gabriel Iglesias with $8.5 million, John Bishop with $8 million and Dave Chapelle at $7.5 million.

Sadly, there are no women who have made the list and we love our female comedians. Where is Ellen DeGeneres? Amy Poehler? Tina Fey? Amy Schumer? Even Whoopie Goldberg? ~ Sharon Salsberg
