Joaquin Phoenix, 34, says he’s quitting acting. While at a benefit for Paul Newman’s camps for kids on Monday, he was talking to TV show Extra about his work in the romantic drama Two Lovers, co-starring Gwyneth Paltrow, when he announced: “This will be my last performance as an actor. I’m not doing films anymore.” Extra interviewer Jerry Penacoli blurted out, “Are you serious?” Phoenix responded: “Yeah. I’m working on my music. I’m done. I’ve been through that.” Phoenix’s rep has confirmed the news. Phoenix, whose career spans over 26 years, lost his brother River Phoenix to a drug overdose in 1993 and undoubtedly has also been affected by the recent death of Heath Ledger, who was a close friend.

That’s too bad, he’s a good actor, but certainly understandable.
im a little shocked by the news but i think you gotta do what your mind tells you
i’m quite shocked. one of the few ‘news’ that really got a surprise reaction from me…i just don’t get it. he’s still so young. can’t he do acting and music at the same time? i’m confused. unless of course he realized that music is his true passion. but still. i don;t think i’ve heard of anyone actually quitting acting…maybe taking long breaks and doing a film now and again but an actual retirement?
Hey good for him! He’s one of those few celebs who doesn’t crave the spotlight. Good actor and I’m sure he will do just as well.
I’m not convinced he’s quitting, perhaps for now.
well respect!!! as long as he doesn’t pull a “retirement-then i’m unretiring” move like other entertainers have done lately.
Whatever you do Joaquin be good at it.I believe he should try his hand at Directing or Producing stuff later on also.More power to ya bro.
really like this guy, think he’ll do fine whatever “line he walks”
I was prepared that this day
would come….But he is a good singer
And was very good in “Walk the line”…
