Joe Simpson was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) last weekend.
The 54-year-old showbiz patriarch - the father-and-manager of Jessica and Ashlee Simpson - was stopped by officers on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles, at around 10pm on August 4 and the police thought he was intoxicated so arrested him.
Joe was booked and spent the rest of the night in a cell. He was released at 9:41 am the following day and did not have to post bail.
According to TMZ, the case has not yet been sent to prosecutors in the Los Angeles City Attorney's office. However, if criminal charges are filed, Joe is unlikely to receive jail time as it is his first offense.

Maybe he's a drunk, but maybe he just made a bad judgment call on driving while intoxicated. Hey... Dad's aren't perfect - they make mistakes too.... Otherwise, I don't even know who this guy is....
