Karate Kid beats up box office competition

The Karate Kid starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith, smashed its way to the top of the North American box office in its debut weekend, earning a Tribute Viewer Rating of 3.4 out of 5 stars and an estimated $56 million, beating out another 1980’s remake, The A-Team, which earned $26 million in second place and a Tribute Viewer Rating of 3.7 out of 5. After enjoying three weekends in the top spot, Shrek Forever After (Tribute Viewer Rating: 3.8) slipped to third place, earning an additional $16 million for a four-week total of $210 million. Get Him To The Greek (Tribute Viewer Rating: 3.8) and Killers (Tribute Viewer Rating: 2.7), which both debuted a week ago, rounded out the top five with receipts of $10 million and $8 million. At the Canadian box office, the top four movies were the same, but Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (Tribute Viewer Rating: 4.5) beat out Killers for fifth place.
