Katherine Heigl sues drugstore for tweeting her photo

Former Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl has filed a $6 million civil lawsuit against New York drugstore chain Duane Reade for using her name and a paparazzi photograph without her consent on Wednesday, April 9. A tweet on the drugstore’s account says, “Love a quick #Duane Reade run? Even @KatieHeigl can’t resist shopping #NYC’s favorite drugstore.” The post includes a picture of Katherine carrying two Duane Reade shopping bags, linked to Just Jared website. The photo was taken in March near a Duane Reade store in New York while the actress was filming in a new TV series. The same picture was posted on Duane Reade’s Facebook account with captions advertising the store without Heigl’s permission. “We expect Duane Reade to pay for its willful misuse of Katherine Heigl’s name and likeness,” said her lawyer Peter Haviland, adding that any money recovered would go to a charity the actress has supported for many years. ~Alexandra Sharova

How ridiculous! What next? Suing your friends for tagging you in pictures? She needs to get off her high horse. She ain’t the it girl anymore.
Honestly, she’s well within her rights. A person can take a picture of her an post it, a company can not. She never agreed to endorse them. If they had asked her to advertise she would have been paid to do the same thing. So why shouldn’t she get the money they would have had to pay her in order for her to advertise.
How sad for Catherine. Her career has taken such a nose-dive that her only means of making money – Zzzquil ads and suing drug stores! If only your bad attitude hadn’t killed your film and TV career.
