Keith Urban talks new album and American Idol

Not even American Idol judge Keith Urban knows what’s next for the show. The 45-year-old country musician, and husband of actress Nicole Kidman, says he has “no official information on anything. I don’t know anything more about what’s happening next season. It was like this before I signed on… so it’s not unusual for the ‘Idol’ folks to be in this place of figuring out what they want to do, then they always pull it together.” Keith doesn’t seem worried about the outcome as he’s directing his attention to the release of his new album “Fuse,” set to release September 10. With the date set, the musician has made finishing the album his top priority. He is taking a new approach by signing up with artists Jay Joyce, Nathan Chapman, and Butch Walker. Keith finds the collaborating experience “creatively liberating.” He says, “Finding people’s strengths is the thing I love most.” Working with other musicians keeps the country sensation in balance – helping him deal with the Idol drama and uncertainty. Keith stays positive thanks to his appreciation of the Idol contestants: “I love the beginnings of artists when all they’ve got is raw talent and nothing else. They’ve got no star power… just this raw talent that’s just beautiful to see, and you look at them and just go, ‘All you’re needing is life experience… because you’ve got everything else ready to go.’” ~Sarah Dos Santos
