Kristen Bell was in for quite a surprise on her 31st birthday when her boyfriend, actor Dax Shepard, gave her a present so big that she had a full-fledged panic attack. So what was all the fuss over? Well, knowing all about her strange obsession with sloths, Shepard decided to bring one home for her to meet, complete with a jungle-gym habitat. Before even meeting the animal, Bell knew what was about to happen. “I immediately was overcome and I thought, ‘There’s a sloth near. There is a sloth here, it’s close, it’s gonna happen,’” the Big Miracle actress said when she recently appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show. She goes on to explain how when Shepard went into the room to check on her, he found her curled up on the bed in the fetal position sobbing, all because she was so excited about meeting her new fuzzy friend. Bell even brought footage of her meltdown, which Shephard managed to catch on his handheld camera. Watch her reaction in the hilarious video below.

Kristen is awesome, and seems so genuine in every interview and this just made my day.
Not getting a sloth for her birthday is not going to free Tibet. Are those who are slagging it volunteering right now, or donating your salaries to charity? I think not.

The poor creature looked terrified hanging on that pole. They are wild animals. They should not be on display at a birthday party. If she wanted to meet a sloth she should go to a zoo where the animal is in its comfort zone and meet it there. This was clearly an example of animal abuse. This is not funny or cute. It is disrespectful to the poor sloth.
They say actors are a weird breed. I guess this is just one example.
I wonder how she knew he was there, sloths don’t have a distinctive smell. Anyway, I might act like that if Uggie from The Artist showed up at my birthday! Just kidding, but I would be all smiles, that’s for sure if I ever met him, he’s so adorable.
@Ani You could be right however I would like to give the owner of the sloth the benefit of the doubt here and say that this sloth has likely been domesticated since birth. So really it would be no different than any other pet – do you think horses, cats, dogs, rabbits etc etc were never wild animals?
Regardless I thought Kristens reaction, regardless of what it was to, was cute.
Ani I constantly fight for animals rights there was no abuse here. I agree with cat this sloth was probably domesticated and had been since birth. the animal was not scared they always hang like that. and they are somewhat shy. but no one was harming the animal. it is the same as someone taking a dog to the senior center, so they can bring comfort, to the elderly.they might be overwhelmed at first but it probably relaxed after being there for awhile.

And regardless if this is a frivolous ‘waste’ of money that could be used elsehere, we have no idea if Kristen volunteers for (or donates to) charities that help the homeless/foodless/needy…this was a truly ‘human’ moment … anyone who willingly allows themselves to share their embarassing moments is totally elevated in my opinion, and Kristen is so genuine here. Life is short. We need to celebrate simple human enjoyments.

That was so funny and cute! Kristen Bell is a doll! Human nature is strange. It’s amazing how we all love different things and can get emotional about something that would never get a second look from someone else. This is what makes the world go round, I guess. It would be boring if we were all the same.
