Kyle Chandler’s daughter wants shark fin ban

By Alexandra Heilbron on January 17, 2013 | 6 Comments

Zero Dark Thirty star Kyle Chandler was on Ellen yesterday, and during his appearance, he told Ellen about his daughter, Sawyer, 11, who wants to be a marine biologist. She’s set up a website to ban shark fins in Texas, where she lives, and she’s looking for a minimum of 100 signatures. On her website, she writes: “You may think sharks are mean killing machines, but really, it is all a big lie!!! Sharks are kind animals and if you have ever heard of a shark attack when someone is boogie boarding or surfing, then did you ever think of the sharks view? You look just like another sea creature. Sharks are loving animals and people really do underestimate them…. People used to think of whales as killing machines prior to now but today they are gentle giants. People are so afraid of sharks, they don’t bother to learn about them.” For more information about shark finning, check out the website for Sharkwater Rob Stewart‘s award-winning film about sharks. She’s so bright for her age. It’s really important to get the message across. People need to understand the value of animals.
