Law & Order shelved after 20 years

NBC has shelved the crime series Law & Order after 20 years on the air. The long-running show, which survived a number of cast replacements over the years has finally come to an end, but the name will continue on as a new Law & Order set in Los Angeles is scheduled for the upcoming fall season. NBC also dropped the sci-fi series Heroes, which ran for four years, but is picking up Lost creator JJ Abrams’ new spy series Undercovers. The network will also produce a contemporary remake of the 1970s detective series The Rockford Files, which originally starred James Garner (The Notebook). Two of NBC’s medical dramas, Mercy and Trauma, were given the axe, while ABC has cancelled the medical comedy Scrubs. The flailing One Tree Hill has been cautiously renewed for 13 episodes by the CW. NBC, which has decided to commit to scheduling scripted shows after experience failing ratings due to Jay Leno’s nightly 10:00 p.m. talk show, is also offering The Event, starring Jason Ritter as a man investigating the mysterious disappearance of his fiancée.

Rockford Files? Woo-hoo, I hope James Garner plays Rockford’s dad!
rockford files? oh my! i used to watch reruns about 15 yrs back. i can see it now. jim rockford running around with a walker and an oxygen tank, and angel right beside him in a wheelchair. desperate times for nbc
this is a bad decision, getting rid of the original Law and Order for a new one based in LA. That is just horrible, I say keep LAO scrap the plans for LA.
Kevin, I think they’re going to use a younger actor to actually play Jim Rockford.

i can understand them wanting to start something different instead of keeping a show that has been on for 20 years. its hard to keep writing new shows after that long. i think they should bring the unusuals back if they need shows. i loved the unusuals. 🙁
