Lena Dunham wants guns removed from Jason Bourne subway ads

The U.S. has experienced a spike in its already alarmingly high number of mass shootings lately, and in response, Lena Dunham has come forward to advocate for the removal of guns from Jason Bourne subway ads.

Lena, the 30-year-old star and creator of the HBO hit Girls, reposted a photo to Instagram that writer-producer Tami Sagher originally uploaded to the social media outlet. Tami is best known for her work on the shows How I Met Your Mother, Girls, Broad City and Inside Amy Schumer.

Tami’s post depicts the Jason Bourne subway ad — which features Matt Damon‘s titular character holding a gun — without the weapon in hand. Her caption reads, “Hey New Yorkers, what if we do some peeling & get rid of the guns in the Jason Bourne subway ads. So tired of guns.”

When Lena republished the photo, she added the following caption: “Good idea @tulipbone! Let’s go!”

Tami and Lena’s push to omit guns from the film’s subway ads comes in the wake of last week’s tragic shootings. Two black men — Alton Sterling and Philando Castile — were shot and killed by police in their respective states of Louisiana and Minnesota. During a Dallas protest of their unjust and hateful murders, five police officers were killed and several others injured.

The Dallas incident is the deadliest of its kind for law enforcement in the U.S. since the 9/11 attacks.

Less than a week ago, Matt spoke out about the lack of gun control in the U.S. and how his country should follow in the footsteps of Australia, which implemented nationwide gun law reform and has seen far fewer cases of mass shootings as a result.

Matt’s film Jason Bourne, which is the fifth installment in the franchise and also stars Julia Stiles, Alicia Vikander, Vincent Cassel and Tommy Lee Jones, hits theaters July 29.

Check out Lena’s Instagram post below.

It’s their way of life. Nothing will change in the states. These people are clearly unAmerican by not wanting to get shot.

I don’t know if removing guns from movie posters will stop people with mental health issues from shooting up a movie theatre or a school or a nightclub.

Absolutely get rid of the gun
There’s been so much blood shed and violence that this would easily give the wrong person ideas to act on.

I would like Lena Dunham removed from TV screens.

    Dunham is a reprehensible pig.

If the Bourne movie was about molesting little sisters and falsely accusing men of rape Dunham would be supporting it.

I don’t think a few guns in a Jason Bourne subway ad will make any kind of difference in the big picture. Sure, the U.S. needs to evaluate its policies, but that won’t happen for a long time and I don’t think Lena Dunham’s opinions are going to start a conversation about gun control.

I am in Canada, and we have strict gun ownership laws. All handguns are considered Restricted”,and cannot be carried around. Use for gun range only. Must have gone through a CPIC check with police. ANY violent incident in your past, disqualified! Mental hospital, disqualified! You need a permit to own any gun, and fill out a few forms about your history. Handgun must be in a locked metal box, separate from the ammo, when going to a gun range. About the only acceptable reason to have one. The weapon is checked for serial number and recorded at the range, and so is your permit. Time in and time out. You must go directly home from the range and leave the gun at home, BEFORE going elsewhere. Long guns also require a permit to own. NO weapons are sold to anyone without a permit! Even privately. Police must be notified of change of ownership. Hand guns are all registered. You get your permit, after 2 weeks wait, go to a store, select your hand gun, put a down payment and it is held. Now you go to the local police and get a “permit to convey”, that is valid for a few hours, during which time you buy the gun and take the paperwork back to the police. They will verify it is not a “wanted gun”, check serial number, keep copies of paperwork. Now you go straight home with it. With long guns, you still need a permit to own, but you do not have to register them. However the stores all keep records. You need permit to buy. You cannot drive around with a rifle or shotgun in your vehicle, except when going hunting. You need to have a trigger lock on each gun hand gun or long gun. Even at home, ammo must be stored away from guns. ALL storage must be child safe. Still, we have criminals that get handguns, usually smuggled in from USA. If you are caught in possession of an illegal handgun, you will get 5 years in jail, less if lucky. But you are banned now from ever owning one legally! Our police rarely shoot anyone, preferring to use tasers, pepper spray. They all wear body armour. All cars have computers, and a locked shotgun. If you have a shotgun and saw the barrel short, it is considered an illegal weapon and you face jail time. Any American crossing into Canada must surrender their guns at the border, to be given back when you exit Canada. ONLY exception is for hunters with documents to prove why they are transporting into Canada, and where the weapon will be used. And have a hunting permit. WE do not have a second amendment, or any law that specifically grants us any right to own a gun. BUT it is allowed if you do things legally, and use it properly. If you kill an intruder IN your house, better have proof your life was in danger. NEVER shoot anyone outside the house! Even if he is smashing your car with a bat. Your life IS NOT IN DANGER!!

Why single out the Bourne movie… Why hasn’t she objected to all the other movies that have come out this year. Or last year. Or will come out.

I think someone got reject for a job and is now butt hurt.

Movie ads are not the problem!
The issue is deeper societal behaviour in the USA.

Love your neighbour, please don’t shoot them
