Liam Neeson opens up about grief after the death of his wife

For the first time since his wife Natasha Richardson died, Liam Neeson opened up to Equire magazine for its March issue. He was filming Chloe in Toronto when Natasha hit her head during a skiing lesson at Mont Tremblant and died two days later. Liam rushed to the Quebec hospital where she’d been taken. He said, “I walked into the emergency… and for the first time in years, nobody recognizes me. Not the nurses. The patients. No one. And I’ve come all this way, and they won’t let me see her.” He went outside, and a nurse on a break recognized him and brought him to Natasha’s bedside. “So I get there, just in time. And all these young doctors, who look all of eighteen years of age, they tell me the worst. The worst.” Following the funeral, he returned to work, but found he couldn’t escape the grief. “It’s easy enough to plan jobs, to plan a lot of work. But that’s the weird thing about grief. You can’t prepare for it. You think you’re gonna cry and get it over with. You make those plans, but they never work.” Two years later, Liam says he still feels the pain of losing Natasha. “It hits me in the middle of the night. I’m out walking. I’m feeling quite content. And it’s like suddenly, boom. It’s like you’ve just done that in your chest.”

I know exactly what he means. Grief never goes away. Just when you think you’re getting over it, it comes back and hits you just as hard as the day it happened. Especially the way it happened for him, it was such a shock. I wonder how his kids are doing.

He will find people saying,”Give it time, time heals all.” That’s what I heard. I would buy that person a watch and tell them to stick ‘time’ where the sun don’t shine. Everyone grieves differently, I never cried when my father passed away and most thought I was cold hearted. I cried on my own, in my own way. When I had to have my dog put down…I could not stop crying…still do even after several years…people feel things their own way, but if some don’t see that hollywood effect they assume you are cold and have no felings…what a shame. Got off track here, sorry. Liam, you are one of the best talents…I wish you nothing but the best in all endeavors…Natasha was a treasure lost…

Poor guy. It was a freaky way for her to die. He clearly loves her and I’m sure she will always have a big place in his heart for the rest of his life. ime doesn’t heal all, it’ only lessens the pain a little.
