Mad Men won Best Drama Series and 30 Rock won Best Comedy Series at last night’s Primetime Emmy Awards. Glenn Close for the second year in a row for her role in the drama series Damages, while Michael J. Fox walked off with the Emmy for Guest Actor in a Drama Series. The Guest Actress in a Drama Series Emmy went to Ellen Burstyn, for Law & Order: SVU. Grey Gardens, about Jackie Kennedy’s eccentric aunt and cousin, picked up three Emmys, including Made for Television Movie, Supporting Actress in a Movie (Jessica Lange, beating out her co-star, Drew Barrymore) and Supporting Actor (Ken Howard). As he accepted his award, Howard joked, “I’ll make my speech as brief as possible, in the hope it’s not interrupted by a congressman or a rapper.” Alec Baldwin and Toni Collette picked up Lead Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series awards; while Jon Cryer and Kristin Chenoweth won for Supporting Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series. While accepting his award, Cryer deadpanned: “I used to think that awards were just shallow tokens of momentary popularity, but now—[I realize] they are the only true measure of a person’s real worth as a human being.”
