Madonna is finally speaking out about M.I.A. flashing her middle finger during their Super Bowl performance last week and she is not impressed. The Material Girl claims to have known nothing about it until after she left, telling listeners of the radio show, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, that she was surprised by the crude gesture. "I understand it’s punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity, it seemed negative," she said. "It’s such a teenager ... irrelevant thing to do ... there was such a feeling of love and unity there. What was the point? It was just out of place."

According to gossip site TMZ, M.I.A. reportedly got in touch with Madonna after her radio interview with Seacrest to apologize for her actions. Both the NFL and the network, NBC, have also apologized to viewers for not catching the gesture in time to censor it. Meanwhile, M.I.A. or her reps have not said a word about the incident.

Madonna was the queen of controversy, she's just mad that M.I.A upstaged her.

...says the woman who nearly ruined Pepsi with her "like a prayer" commercial debacle, and her "SEX" book.

Artists often build controversy to build the brand. Madonna mastered that concept in her early years; she’s hardly in the position to chastise upcoming artists who follow suit.

I agree that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, however, MIA's gesture was tacky and unwarranted.
