It might be a long time in the future in a galaxy far far away, but Mark Hamill is already teasing Star Wars Episode IX.
The 64-year-old Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor tweeted a video of himself shaving off his Luke Skywalker beard. “Haven’t seen my chin since May ’15, so #FarewellFacialFur & #ByeByeBeard (at least til #EpisodeIX),” he tweeted.
The shave was filmed to anoint the wrap of Episode VIII‘s filming schedule. By mentioning Episode IX, Mark has unleashed a tidal wave of speculation.
It can now be reasonably assumed that Luke Skywalker will appear in Star Wars: Episode IX.
Star Wars: Episode IX is not to be confused with Star Wars Episode VIII, which comes out next year. Star Wars Episode IX is currently slated for a 2019 release.
Plot details surrounding these movies have been extremely hush hush. Those wanting their Star Wars fix can rest easy, knowing that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is only four short months away.

During an appearance this week, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams revealed that one of the major stars of the film lost their script.
Not really a spoiler. All it means is, if Hamill is being serious, that he will be in Episode IX. What does that give away? He’s a Jedi, so dead or alive he can still appear in the next movie. Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda both did it. Surely Luke can. 😉
Ok that was just too cute!
