Matt Lucas drops out of play after ex-husband’s suicide

British actor Matt Lucas (on the left, with red tie) has pulled out of a London stage production after his ex-husband Kevin McGee was found dead at his Edinburgh home. The two were married in December 2006. McGee, 32, hanged himself at his apartment on Monday, after posting a message on his Facebook page that read: “Kevin McGee thinks death is much better than life.” Friends alerted the authorities, but by the time police arrived at his home at 8 a.m., he was already dead. The British paper The Sun says Lucas is “utterly destroyed.” “Matt was floored when he heard the news,” a source said. “He always loved Kevin despite their differences and their difficult marriage.” The couple’s divorce was finalized in December 2008. At the time, Lucas said the reason was McGee’s “unreasonable behavior.” Lucas stars as Tweedledee/Tweedledum in the upcoming Alice in Wonderland opposite Johnny Depp and provides the voice of Sparx in the upcoming animated feature Astro Boy.
