Melissa McCarthy shows weight loss at Hollywood star ceremony

Melissa McCarthyMelissa McCarthy had a lot to smile about this week as she was (finally!) awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Bridesmaids star has definitely deserved this moment as one of the leading actresses in Hollywood, but that isn’t all she has to be proud of. Melissa, 44, showed off her beautiful and slimmer curves in a floral dress, the result of an estimated 50-pound weight loss.

The mother of two has spoken about before on body image in hopes that her daughters can be proud and comfortable with who they are.

“I’ve never felt like I needed to change. I’ve always thought ‘if you want somebody different, pick somebody else,'” she told People. “I want my girls to know what’s real, that how you should or shouldn’t look – all the ‘shoulds’ – it applies to no one. It’s not real. It’s made up.”

After the ceremony, Melissa went on The Ellen Degeneres Show and spoke out about how women are put down, after she personally had an experience with a harsh film critic. She explained that the critic could not understand why her husband would let her look “hideous” in a film and claimed Melissa is only a good actress when she looks “attractive.”

Melissa told Ellen: “I said, just know that every time you write stuff every young girl in this country reads that and they just get a little bit chipped away. I just think that we tear down women in this country for all these superficial reasons and women are so great and strong and I think he really heard that.”

Melissa is such a kind soul and some people could definitely learn a lot from her!

Good for her. Mainly because it’s healthier not to be overweight.

Good for her on a few levels! One for being herself and not being bullied into being someone she is not. Great news about the weight loss, it is never easy, so awesome for her, i hope she keeps it up. It is obviously healthier for her! but mostly for what she said about her girls!! Teaching them to just be themselves, to be confident! I think it’s a huge problem in society, expecting girls to be bone thin, ads are all for the thin women, whatever happened to “average weight” But that’s a whole other topic! She seems down to earth an i hope she stays that way!

Not many people seem to know this, but you have to be nominated, then chosen and you have to pay for your own star. Usually the fans do the nominating and pay for it. Melissa has a lot of fans because she’s a down to earth nice lady.

Forget about the image issue cuz people will always find a reason why you should look a different was so as to meet societal ideal of beauty (deathly pale and pasty white face at one time to try to get as dark as possible the next time at th risk of skin cancer; no lips at all to lets inject foreign objects to get bee stung (read black) lips, no butt or else u got a a fat azz to being ridiculed if you booty dont look like Jlo or Nicky Minaj and having a phat azz is a compliment; blue eyes green eyes vs dark eyes; blond and redhead vs dark hair; lean vs muscled and ripped etc),what is important though is being healthy so saying should does not matter is also the wrong message. People SHOULD maintain a healthy body weight not for image but for health. Obesity is a problem in America and all the health risks that comes with it. No different is he other extreme where people actually are anorexic or borderline so, that is just as unhealthy and comes with severe health risks. Everyone should strive to eat healthy and exercise and guess what? you will automatically HAVE a body size that is healthy irrespective of if it is deemed “attractive” by the latest trends in society or not.

I love her movies, seen Bridesmaids, then The Heat, she was hillariously funny in those. St. Vincent showed another side of her acting, and I’m looking forward to seeing Spy, should be a good one too. She deserves the “Star”.
