Meryl Streep’s daughter Grace Gummer joins The Newsroom

Meryl Streep‘s daughter, Grace Gummer, will be joining the cast of The Newsroom for its second season. The 27-year-old actress will be playing the role of Hallie Shea, a reporter working with Jim Harper (played by John Gallagher Jr.) while he’s on the road covering the Romney campaign. Grace is the second youngest child of the Oscar-winning actress and sculptor Don Gummer. Although her first acting credit was in 1993’s The House of the Spirits, she did not fully pursue an acting career until 2010, after she’d graduated from Vassar College with a degree in Italian and art history. She recently completed filming The Homesman, the second feature film directed by Tommy Lee Jones and co-starring Hilary Swank. Season two of The Newsroom premieres July 14 on HBO. ~Alfonso Espina
