Moviegoers flocked to see Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a prequel to the 2001 Planet of the Apes, surpassing industry expectations of $35 million for the film's opening weekend. The new film boasts superior CGI effects to create realistic apes, unlike the old apes movies that saw people dressed in gorilla costumes. Tribute viewers gave it a high ranking of 4.5 out of 5 stars. The Smurfs held on to second place for the second weekend in a row (4.4 stars), taking in an additional $21 million, while Cowboys & Aliens (3.6 stars) dropped from the top spot to third place with $15.7 million. The new gross-out comedy The Change Up made a disappointing $13.5 million in fourth place, earning 3 stars from Tribute viewers, while Captain America: The First Avenger keeps going strong in fifth place (4.2 stars), earning an additional $13 million for a three-week total of 143 million.

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes was actually very good, (& it wasn't even in 3-D!)... thank god!

Oh, and I wonder if ames Franco will be eating his words from a recent article on this tribute.ca where he made it certainly seem he was in no way proud to do this movie and he certainly felt like it was not his choice to make this film and thought it'd be silly or stupid.

I thought the movie was really good but didn't pay off at the end as I had hoped but the sentimentality overall was really well built up and believable.
