Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice PosterIt looks like three-weekend box office champ Zootopia will face some real competition this weekend in the form of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which sees legendary superheros Batman and Superman, as well as heartthrobs Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, on the big screen together for the very first time.

A decidedly different but no less entertaining on-screen duo, Nia Vardalos and John Corbett, return in the comedy sequel My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, this time with an even bigger and fatter Greek wedding to plan.

But if reboots and sequels just aren’t your thing, have no fear. The bases are loaded with options this weekend — with Helen Mirren in the political thriller Eye in the Sky, Colin Farrell in the black comedy The Lobster and Kevin Costner narrating the sports documentary Fastball. ~Shelby Morton

Bruce Wayne’s Batman (Ben Affleck) and Clark Kent’s Superman (Henry Cavill) are pitted against one another in the epic superhero mashup Batman v Superman: Dawn of JusticeBatman, like much of society, has adopted the notion that Superman is a threat to humanity and the source of Earth’s chaos. Even though Batman had retired his cape and mask, he dusts them off as he fears for the future of the world with such a great power left uncontrolled. However, as the two square off in a vengeful war, a new, darker danger arises, capable of total destruction. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters everywhere today. Click here for showtimes.

Fourteen years after the original hit movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding, the entire cast of original characters is back in the sequel My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, which opens wide across Canada. This time around, it’s revealed that Toula’s (Nia Vardalos) parents were never legally married — so, of course, the family decides to plan an official wedding for them. With the addition of Toula and Ian’s (John Corbett) teenage daughter Paris (Elena Kampouris), the movie follows the Portokalos family’s shenanigans while planning an even bigger and even Greek-er wedding. Click here for showtimes.

In the action thriller Eye in the Sky, debuting across Canada, London-based military intelligence officer Colonel Katherine Powell (Helen Mirren) is remotely commanding a top secret drone operation to capture a group of dangerous terrorists when they arrive at a safe house in Nairobi, Kenya. The operation suddenly escalates from capture to kill when the cameras spot explosive suicide vests being placed on two new recruits. Knowing that many will be killed if the men are allowed to leave wearing the suicide vests, American drone pilot Steve Watts (Aaron Paul) gets the go-ahead to destroy the safe house, when a small girl enters the kill zone just outside the walls of the house. Opening in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, The Lobster is set in a dystopian future where individuals are not allowed to be without a mate. David (Colin Farrell) has just been left by his wife, and as a result, must report to a secluded hotel that is home to other single residents. If he fails to find a match within 45 days, he will be transformed into an animal, a lobster in his case, and released into the wild. At first, David tries to abide by the rules but he soon becomes appalled by the ordeal and flees into the woods. Apparently he’s not the first to escape. There he meets up with a band of rebellious runaways and is attracted to a fellow outcast known as the “Short-Sighted Woman” (Rachel Weisz). Click here for showtimes.

Narrated by Kevin Costner and opening in Toronto only, Fastball explores the age-old showdown between pitcher and batter. Former and current players, along with scientists and others, discuss how the magic of baseball boils down to the 396 milliseconds it takes a 100 mph fastball to reach home plate. Click here for showtimes.
