New movies in theatres – Star Wars: The Force Awakens and more!

But if sci-fi isn’t your thing, don’t worry, because there are a number of films willing to go up against the biggest release of the year, including Sisters and Alvin and the Chipmunks – The Road Chip. The long-awaited Star Wars: The Force Awakens opened last night at midnight across Canada, with people standing in line and buying tickets weeks in advance. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) is missing. A scrappy scavenger named Rey (Daisy Ridley) and a former Stormtrooper named Finn (John Boyega) team up with Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca to find Luke. Click here for showtimes. In the comedy Sisters, also opening across Canada, two sisters (Tina Fey, Amy Poehler) have to clean out their childhood bedroom before their parents sell the house. To relive their glory days, they throw a high school style rager. Click here for showtimes.

Opening across Canada, in Alvin and the Chipmunks – The Road ChipAlvin, Simon, and Theodore believe Dave (Jason Lee) is going to propose to his new girlfriend in New York City and after that, he’ll have no need for them and will get rid of them. CIA agent Leonard Turner (Bruce Willis) has been taken hostage by terrorists in Extraction, opening in Toronto and on VOD.
