Blu-ray cover for Triple 9

With cops, gods, zombies, athletes and gunslingers all appearing in this week’s new DVD releases, there’s a film suited to everyone’s taste.

The list is headlined by the star-studded Triple 9, which is a violent, fast-paced cop thriller. There’s also the Gerard Butler fantasy film Gods of Egypt and a twist on a beloved Jane Austen novel with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The true story of runner Jesse Owens gets feature film treatment in Race, while the Western Jane Got a Gun with Natalie Portman is loaded and ready for the small screen too. ~Matthew Pariselli

Ex-Special Forces member Michael Atwood (Chiwetel Ejiofor) leads a crew of corrupt cops in a daring bank heist. Detective Sergeant Jeffrey Allen (Woody Harrelson) is roped in to investigate the bank robberies. He is unaware that his nephew Chris Allen (Casey Affleck) has been partnered with one of the corrupt cops (Anthony Mackie). When Russian-Israeli mob boss Irina Vlaslov (Kate Winslet) forces them into another seemingly impossible heist, the crew decides to stage a “999” incident which is cop code for “officer down.” They plan to take down one of their own to carry out the heist but things soon take an ugly turn.

Set, the God of Darkness (Gerard Butler), defeats rival deity Horus (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in a vicious duel and blinds him before taking over Egypt and enslaving his people. A mortal named Bek (Brenton Thwaites) allies himself with Horus in an attempt to save humanity.

In this wild reimagining of Jane Austen’s classic tale set in the 19th century, scrappy martial arts specialist Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) and the very wealthy Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley) are true opposites — however, equally prideful and prejudiced. But in the face of an unknown and dangerous plague, the two must cast aside their different social classes in order to deal with their tangled romantic relationship — and fight off an army of undead zombies. Based on the classic novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

The true story of Jesse Owens (Stephan James), the African American track and field athlete who won four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin. Jesse goes to Ohio State to study and while there, is spotted by coach Larry Snyder (Jason Sudeikis), who recognizes Jesse’s potential. He inspires Jesse to aim for gold at the next Olympics, to be held in Germany. Meanwhile American officials deliberate on whether the United States should participate or withdraw, due to Hitler’s Nazi regime and its treatment of Jews and other minorities.

Jane (Natalie Portman), a young mother living on a secluded ranch on the vast New Mexico prairie seeks help from her former fiancé, Dan, (Joel Edgerton), now a gunslinger, after her husband duels with a gang called the Bishop Boys and their ruthless leader (Ewan McGregor). With the Boys after her family, Jane’s past comes back in a flurry of bullets and blood, and it’s now up to her and Dan to help save her family.
