New Releases – The Martian, Sicario and more

themartian6TGIF! That means the weekend is almost here, offering plenty of relaxation, free time and new movies! If you’re thinking about seeing a movie this weekend, you can choose a wild trip to Mars, Mexico, China or England, but whatever you do, we’re sure you’ll enjoy the ride.

Opening Canada-wide, in the movie The Martian, NASA astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon, pictured at left) is impaled by an antenna during a fierce dust storm on Mars, which destroys his suit’s bio-monitor computer. His crewmates assume he is dead and leave him behind. Turns out he’s alive and now he has to figure out how to survive with few supplies, not to mention figure out a way to contact Earth and let them know he is still alive. Sicario opens wide today. After finding a house full of dead bodies while investigating a kidnapping, FBI Agent Kate Macy (Emily Blunt) is invited to join a drug force team (Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin) to take a drug lord and his cronies down, but soon finds herself in over her head when she gets a first-hand view into the violent and dangerous world of international drug trafficking. Releasing in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal, Coming Home follows a woman struggling from amnesia in the aftermath of the Cultural Revolution, who is determined to regain her memory and find her imprisoned husband. Click here for showtimes.

A Brilliant Young Mind opens today at the Hyland Cinema in London. Asa Butterfield (Hugo, Ender’s Game) plays a socially awkward teenage math prodigy  who finds new confidence and new friendships when he lands a spot on the British squad at the International Mathematics Olympiad.
