New releases this week – Mad Max: Fury Road, Pitch Perfect 2 and more

The long weekend is upon us and with it comes a handful of fresh flicks. Mad Max: Fury Road is sure to get your engine running, while Pitch Perfect 2 will deliver harmonious hysterics to the highest note. So with no further adieu we present you with this week’s new theatrical releases. ~ Andree Rhooms

Set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, Mad Max: Fury Road is the story of two rebels fighting to survive in a futuristic world filled with chaos and destruction.  Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) teams with Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) as they try and escape a savage warlord. Pitch Perfect 2 has the Barden Bellas ready to take on any and all competitors. After a humiliating wardrobe malfunction disgraces the team, Beca (Anna Kendrick) and Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) must work to clear their name and regain their status. Good Kill revolves around U.S. Air Force drone pilot, Major Thomas Egan (Ethan Hawke) who spends his days bombing targets in Afghanistan from a remote post in Las Vegas. Sam (Julia Sarah Stone) is an awkward, self-conscious 14-year-old searching for a place to belong in the coming-of-age story, Wet Bum. Sam gets into some trouble and is forced to work in a retirement home. There she finds some unlikely friends who show her a few things about growing up. The film opens in Toronto and Vancouver. Opening in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, Dancing Arabs follows a Palestinian-Israeli boy named Eyad (Tawfeek Barhom) as he enters a prestigious boarding school in Jerusalem. As he arrives he’s confronted with issues of culture, identity, and language.

Iris is a documentary profiling fashion icon Iris Apfel. The hard working 93-year-old tells her story beginning with her upbringing during the Great Depression and transitioning to her introduction to the world of fashion. Iris can be seen in Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, Montreal, Edmonton, and Regina.
