Ninja Turtles and more opening this weekend!

Whether you want to see it in 2D or 3D, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are back on-screen! Join the four heroes in a half-shell, their mentor Splinter, and friends (including Megan Fox as April O’Neil), as they battle the villainous Shredder and his Foot Clan in New York City. When the town of Silverton is hit with an usual amount of tornadoes over a single day, the freak acts of nature draw storm trackers, thrill seekers and cause havoc for the locals in Into the Storm. Calvary tells the story of Father James Lavelle (Brendan Gleeson), whose life is threatened during a parishioner’s confession when a man claiming he was sexually abused as a child by a now-dead priest wants to punish the Catholic Church by killing an innocent priest. In Land Ho!former brother-in-laws Mitch (Earl Lynn Nelson), an outgoing American with a Southern drawl and a bawdy sense of humor, and Colin (Paul Eenhorn), a reserved Australian who loves movies, head to Iceland on a road trip to catch up with each other and find adventure. Night Moves focuses on three radical environmentalists (Jesse Eisenberg, Dakota Fanning and Peter Sarsgaard) and their plan to protest a hydroelectric dam, a symbol of all they despise, by destroying it. The film opens to a limited Toronto release on August 8. Showtimes can be found here.

In About Alex, a friend’s attempted suicide compels a group of college friends (among them Aubrey Plaza, Jane Levy, Jason Ritter and Maggie Grace) to reunite over a long weekend. During the reunion, tension grows, and friendships and relationships are tested as group members’s previous decisions surface. The movie has a limited release in Toronto.
