Tom Cruise’s new sci-fi thriller Oblivion destroyed the box office competition in its opening weekend, bringing in $38.2 million over three days. It’s the fifth biggest North American opening for a Cruise movie behind several installations of the Mission Impossible franchise and the sci-fi horror movie War of the Worlds. Oblivion, which has a Tribute user rating of 3.8/5 stars, has so far taken in $150.2 million worldwide. Meanwhile, 42, the Jackie Robinson biopic, which nabbed first place last week, fell to second with $18 million. It has a high Tribute user rating of 4.5/5 stars. The Croods stayed at third this week with $9.5 million and a user rating of 4.5 stars. The family film passed the $400 million milestone worldwide and continues to find success in theaters despite opening five weeks ago.

Scary Movie 5, which has a Tribute user rating of 3.3 stars, dropped from second to fourth and made $6.3 million at the box office this weekend, increasing its total over two weeks to just $22.9 million. G.I. Joe: Retaliation slipped to 5th with $5.8 million but it’s still performing well overseas and has so far earned $322.9 million worldwide. The action flick, starring Dwayne Johnson, currently has a Tribute user rating of 3.5/5. Rounding out the top ten were: The Place Beyond the Pines, Olympus Has Fallen, Evil Dead, Jurassic Park 3D, and Oz The Great and Powerful. ~Cassie Jasinski

I’ll tell ya Vicky 🙂 I went with 2 critical friends and they loved it! This movie had amazing visuals with awesome cinematography and audio was fantastic! Great special effects and a wicked score to boost. Tom does all his own stunts and that made all the action more pleasurable as well. Great romantic story line and a great “Thinking” style movie thriller sci fi I’m sure you’ll love if that’s your thing. Go and see it for yourself don’t take my word for it or anyone else’s just go see it and do yourself a huge favor this movie is a delight to watch in IMAX OR AVX don’t watch it any other way. Best AVX theaters are SCARBORUGH TOWN CENTRE OR EGLINGTON TOWN not yorkdale it sucks there. Have fun!

I thought AVX was just sound quality though. Meaning, more pounding on your ear drums
