Run Lola Run

Writer/director Tom Tykwer’s 1998 German time travel/ crime film tells the story of Lola. Our heroine Lola (Franka Potente) has about 20 minutes to get 100,000 marks to her boyfriend who is being held captive by the ruthless crime lord to whom he is indebted. What makes Run Lola Run so cool is Tykwer’s delivery: we see three different scenarios of Lola’s mission played out and the contrasting and wild outcomes that follow each possible turn of events. Winning 41 awards, including the World Cinema Audience Award at 1998 Sundance Film Festival, Run Lola Run is a smart, action-packed time travel movie about the remarkable strength of a woman.
