Indians paid to be Tom Cruise fans?

When Tom Cruise arrived in Mumbai to promote his new movie, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, hundreds of fans showed up to cheer him on and ask for his autograph. However, a report in a local newspaper claimed that at least 200 members of the audience were extras who were paid to show up and pretend to be fans. “Tom kaun? [Tom who?] I don’t know who he is or what he does,” an unnamed extra told First Post Bollywood. “We were told to come here by 1 pm today and wait for a foreign VIP to come out of the airport gate and scream and shout when he came. None of us know who Tom is. There was a buffet lunch also for us and we were paid Rs 150 ($3) for this job today. We do this for television shows and other such events where crowds are required.”
However, representatives for Cruise and Paramount Pictures deny that anyone was paid to show up. “Tom Cruise is a massive star and attracts huge throngs of fans as he travels the world promoting Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol,” a Paramount spokesperson said in a statement to The Huffington Post. “The only people paid were performers who danced outside the venue. The idea that fans were paid to cheer is completely ludicrous and entirely false.” Anil Kapoor, an Indian actor who co-stars with Cruise in the film, released a statement that read: “Tom Cruise coming to my country for ‘Mission Impossible’ was an incredible event for the people of Mumbai. I’ve never seen that level of pure enthusiasm.”

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One starring Tom Cruise is a non-stop action-filled adventure with plenty of stunts and an entertaining plot.
I am pretty sure that Tom Cruise gathers crowds no matter where he goes. India has huge interest in films and I am sure that there was also interest in his Indian co-stars.
This film will flop in the box office, just as his last movies. People are just sick and tired of Tom’s cult of Scientology and his over the top ego.Yes. i have no doubt that extras were hired . It’s as fake as Cruise himself.
They would not need to pay crowds to show up as Anil Kapoor is HUGE in India and this event would have been well promoted.
Since when does someone’s religious beliefs have any effect on their talent? Why can’t people respect someone who is a talented actor and has worked extremely hard in an industry that demands perfection? Judge an actor on their abilities not their private choices.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they had to pay for people to show up – Tom Cruise is a has-been. Isn’t it time for him to just go away now?
I wouldn’t spend 5 cents to see a Tom Cruise film or meet him in person. He’s a lousy actor, has a huge ego, and is a religious fanatic! Nicole Kidman should count her blessings that he’s out of her life and is no longer under his control! What a loser!!!
I agree, Tom has no real fans anymore so for sure those people were paid to show up. It is not his questionable beliefs (Scientology cannot be a religion per se if there is no divine God figure at its centre) but his FAKE FAKE smiling and laughing and trying to ingratiate himself with false affection that pisses me off. Ego I am not even going to go there. How arrogant to take food out of the mouths of the children of the stuntmen who should be doing all that crazy stuff in Dubai. No, tom has to do it himself to make everyone think he is cool and relevant, never mind the work he takes away from legitimate stuntmen. I cannot stand him, he is an artificial being inside and out. Katie looks old and resigned to her role as breeder. Poor lass. All the shopping in the world will not take the place of a clear conscience. Perhaps they deserve each other. No one will want to play with that spoiled conceited self-centred child either.
I totally agree with Lucky. How can you judge a person for their religious beliefs. He is a talented actor who has an unusual religion. His religion has nothing to do with his talent for acting. Randy Johnston you need to stop being prejudice against things you don’t understand.

None of Tom Cruise’s movies have ever flopped. Even the bad ones still make profit. He is a talented actor who still pulls in huge box office numbers. He may be bat shit crazy but who in Hollywood isn’t in some form or another.
I love how you all talk like you know him. Saying he is untalented is ignorant. I don’t pretend to “know” that he’s self centered or has an ego. I’m sure he does to an extent as many incredibly famous, wealthy people do, but he’s nowhere near a Kanye level. Scientology, I don’t get it, but it’s his right to believe that and discriminating because of that is childish. And Lisa saying that he’s taking “food out of the mouths of stuntmens children” is laughable and ridiculous. A number of stars do their own stunts because they’re committed to the role, and makes the film more credible.

I too am sick of Tom’s private life but I think he’s a very talented actor. It just shows that when people are so high profile it’s best to try to keep their private lives as private as possible.

Wow, it never ceases to amaze me how the general public think they know celebrities personally, because they’ve seen a few interviews or read some articles.
Don’t believe everything you read or see as the gospel truth.
Like him or not, Tom Cruise is a versatile actor. Just watch him in Born on the Fourth of July, fabulous role.

Actually there are many documented incidents of Tom displaying irrational, arrogant behaviour especially to those who don’t follow his beliefs….just sayin’. Personally I don’t care for Tom’s movies, lately they all seem to be too far out there for my taste, tho I will admit he has made some really good movies and could again with the right script.
But I wonder if those of you who advise others to not judge Tom by his personal choices and only by his acting feel the same about Mel Gibson. Many are judging him on his personal affairs and not his acting and he has got to be one of the most talented men in hollywood, in front or behind the camera. So I hope you are practicing what you preach.
tom cruise used to rule the summer movies as history proves. opening a summer blockbuster type film in Dec will likely show the studio how he can still perform at the box office. There are no real huge movies coming out this month so mark my words this will be the xmas of Cruise. Guaranteed. 49yrs old guy still works his a$$ off the does his own stunts! AND the movie looks awesome.
Look at all the losers that have nothing better to do than hate on someone they’ve never met & could never achieve his level of success in 10 lifetimes. It’s better to be a “has been” than a low life “never was” & “never will be”. 🙂
