Resident Evil: Retribution steals weekend box office

By Tribute on September 17, 2012 | 4 Comments

It was all about debuts at the box office this weekend. Sliding into the top spot was the sequel Resident Evil: Retribution with Milla Jovovich reprising her role as zombie slayer Alice. In its premiere weekend, the action flick raked in $21.1 million and earned a 3.7 star-rating out of a possible 5 from Tribute.ca users. Coming in second was another debut — the 3D re-release of the animated family-favorite, Finding Nemo 3D, which earned $17.5 million and an impressive 4 stars. These two newcomers pushed last week’s front-runner, The Possession, down to third. The thriller, which stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick, still managed to bring in an additional $5.8 million and 3.6 stars. Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, Jason Clarke and the rest of the Lawless cast moved down two spots to fourth, earning $4.2 million and 4 stars. Holding on strong to its fifth place spot was the animated comedy ParaNorman, with $3 million this weekend and 3.9 stars with Tribute.ca users.
