Robert De Niro walks out of The Intern interview

Robert De Niro

Award-winning and respected actor Robert De Niro walked out of an interview for his latest film The Intern. And he isn’t in the habit of granting many interviews in the first place. Even British journalist Piers Morgan wrote in a 2012 article that appeared in The Daily Mail Online that De Niro is “the hardest star to interview.”

Robert was speaking with Emma Brockes of Radio Times and when she asked how he manages to not let himself go into “autopilot” mode while acting on a film, then commented that New York’s Tribeca district (where De Niro co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival) has been taken over by bankers, he became offended and asked her to stop the recording.

She wrote: “He then pops up out of his chair, starts pacing madly and says he’s cutting short the interview because of the ‘negative inference’ of what I just said.”

The interviewer asked in surprise whether he was talking about her comment about the bankers and he replied, “The whole way through and I’m not doing it. I’m not doing it, darling.”

Brockes told The Huffington Post in an email: “It was a long day for everyone. I thought he was terrific in the film, and I quite admire his refusal to play the publicity game, but it does make things tricky from my end.” ~Sharon Salsberg

Perhaps things would be “less tricky” for Ms. Brockes if she did her homework and asked a less inane question than “how do you avoid going into autopilot…” What do you think that question means to an actor? Did Ms. Brockes intend to try to give readers some insight about how Mr. DeNiro works? And, why would an interviewer interested in the actor and his film inject her impression of the TriBeCa area of NY?? Who cares?? No wonder actors and others find some “journalists” tiresome.

I have watched many an opportunity to set the record straight go down the river in the ego boat, when one oar pulled the other pulled more, round and round we go. Not just with actors but with politicians and entire nations.

There was nothing wrong with the journalists’ question…quite legitimate. Maybe DeNiro was having an off day.

Yet another interviewer asking stupid questions to get her 5 seconds of fame. The first question was an insult and the inane banking comment had nothing to do with him or the movie.

I respect DeNiro’s stance on maintaining his personal standards and minimizing the media’s access to himself. As a fan of his for a long time his brilliance as an actor remains intact and he clearly will not give in to media pressures. As far as I am concerned he is refreshing considering the abundance of media pigs like Miley, Justin B, the Kardashian’s and the like

It seemed Mr. Robert De Niro ( at his age 70 or more )’s personal character reason & to trigger him of no interview procedure for any new -film once ready to be circulated in the theatre . He was the great movie- actor by the famous film as during the 1970 period. He acted as the very quiet Godfather in Italy. His score- mark always quiet and to make it toward that destination path with accomplishment . He also did well by the film as . No doubt his avid -acting skill from his talent -mind was genuine. Viewers should be attending his movies circulation day in the theatre near their residential area.
