Robin Williams dead of apparent suicide

Oscar-winner Robin Williams was found dead today of an apparent suicide at his home in California. He was 63 years old. The actor/ comedian got his big break when he played Mork in the 1970s/’80s sitcom Mork & Mindy. He then made a successful transition to movies, playing starring roles in box office hits such as Mrs. Doubtfire, Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting (for which he won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar) and Patch Adams. His publicist, Mara Buxbaum, said in a statement that Williams had been battling severe depression. According to a statement from the Marin County Sheriff’s office, the coroner “suspects the death to be a suicide due to asphyxia.”
A 911 call came from Williams’ home this morning at 11:55 a.m. and he was pronounced dead at 12:02 p.m. He lived with his third wife, graphic designer Susan Schneider. Williams was previously married to second wife Marsha Garces, with whom he has a son, Cody and a daughter, Zelda; and his first wife, Valerie Velardi, with whom he has a son, Zachary. His wife Susan released a statement that read, “This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken. On behalf of Robin’s family, we are asking for privacy during our time of profound grief. As he is remembered, it is our hope the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.” ~Alexandra Heilbron

I grew up watching his movies, it’s incredibly sad that he died and apparently struggling emotionally. I wish he talked to someone and got help for the sake of his family.

The world has become less funny. Robin Williams was a true genius of an actor and comedian. May he rest in peace and may his legacy live on. Mr. Williams, You Ain’t Never Had a Fan Like Me.
Clinical depression is not a mental illness, it’s a physical one, it’s just in the brain but it’s like diabetes. It means there is either a Seratonin or Dopamine deficiency and with medication, you can have a happy normal life, just like diabetics can have a happy normal life with insulin. This is a tragedy, I hope he didn’t feel like his illness was not accepted but I know most people feel uncomfortable around people who are depressed and just don’t know what to do. I just hope his death brings some light to this debilitating condition.
No name, no one chooses to have depression. That doesn’t even make sense. I agree that suicide is a selfish act especially when you have children but unfortunately, depression is a very painful state and I guess he just couldn’t handle living with it anymore.
