Ryan Gosling wants to save cows from animal cruelty

By Tribute News on April 4, 2013 | 14 Comments

Ryan Gosling Ryan Gosling is on a mission to save cows. The Place Beyond The Pines heartthrob has pledged his support to the farmyard creatures' welfare and penned a letter on PETA's behalf to the National Milk Producers Federation, asking them to help ban the cruel de-horning practice used on cattle. In the letter obtained by E! News, he wrote: "De-horning is one of the most painful things done to cows on dairy farms, whether it is by burning a calf with a searing hot iron or applying caustic paste to create a chemical burn that eats away at the animal's flesh. There is absolutely no reason - and no excuse - for the cruel, unnecessary practice of de-horning to continue." The technique involves workers using sharp tools - including saws, wires or guillotine de-horners - to wrench the horns from the petrified young calves' skulls. Animal-lover Ryan - a keen supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - concluded: "I respectfully urge the National Milk Producers Federation to take the lead in stopping this barbaric practice by requiring farmers to phase out de-horning by breeding for polled, or naturally hornless, cattle."

I assume they need to lose the horns so they don’t attack each other and the workers. But if there is a more ethical way then for sure let’s find it and do it. Milk costs will be raised I guarantee it.

Thank you tribute very nice post 🙂 but dehorning goes far far more deeper it’s not only the dehorning that needs to stop. These animals are sacred it’s not fair that we take them for granted cuz they are to be eaten etc. chicken, fish, beef all of the food animals should be kept in the most upscale and respected places for them to live out their lives naturally before they give themselves up to us organicly and with prayer. We take this for granted we poison the very food we eat then Wonder why we have created cancers and diseases. Awesome Ryan thx for fighting back.

I just discovered how badly cows are treated a few months ago.

I’ve been a lifelong vegetarian. I didn’t think anything of dairy because “milking cows doesn’t kill them.” But they endure torture, regardless. And that is why I’m now a vegan. Until Toronto has a farm where cows are allowed to live free-run, with no barbaric de-horning, or growth hormones, I cannot support a torture farm.

London has 1 ideal farm. And the cows are never sent to slaughter. It’s called Ahimsa. They supply London with dairy and there’s a waiting list, because it’s so popular. Who wouldn’t want to support ethical milk?

But it was the only break Nadal surrendered, and when he overwhelmed the Frenchman in the tie-breaker, it was clear he was in total command. He finished after two hours and 21 minutes.
