Samuel L. Jackson reveals curse cure

Samuel L. JacksonSamuel L. Jackson’s stammer is cured when he says “motherf***er.”

The Hateful Eight actor’s speech impediment was so debilitating when he was younger, he was bullied and “stopped speaking for almost a year in school” but discovered an unusual way to rectify his stutter.

He explained: “I have no idea [how] but it just does. It clicks a switch that stops the d-d-d b-b-b, because me, I stuttered really, really, really badly for a long time.”

The 67-year-old actor – whose character in Snakes on a Plane, FBI agent Neville Flynn, memorably said: “I’ve had it with these motherf***ing snakes on this motherf***ing plane” – taught himself to control his speech impediment without formal speech therapy and his hard work eventually paid off.

He told SiriusXM DJ Howard Stern: “I read a lot. I read things about breathing exercises, I actually went to the library to combat stuttering.”

Though he was able to get his stutter under control, Samuel admitted he still had a number of run-ins with bullies.

He said: “Yeah I fought a bit.”

Asked if he won, he joked: “I could then [but] not anymore. I’m too old now.”
