The latest installment in the Saw movie franchise, Saw IV, topped the box office with $32.1 million (all figures US) in its opening weekend, despite negative reviews. The new comedy Dan in Real Life debuted in second place, taking in 12.1 million. Last weekend’s top release, 30 Days of Night dropped to third, earning $6.7 million. The Game Plan dropped one spot to fourth, grossing $6.3 million, while Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married rounded out the top five in its third weekend, taking in an additional $5.7 million.

It’s reassuring to know a quality film can still draw people to the cinema.
