Seth MacFarlane has been chosen to host the 85th Academy Awards, it was announced today. This will be MacFarlane's first appearance on Oscar's stage. "It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars," MacFarlane said in a statement. "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast." MacFarlane, who created the popular TV series Family Guy,  made his feature directorial debut this summer with the box office success Ted, starring Mark Wahlberg. He also co-wrote and produced the film, and voiced the title character.  The Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on Sunday, February 24 and will broadcast live in more than 225 countries.

Peter Grffin hosting the Oscars!!! this will be a show all by itself. With last year's debacle of the co-hosts, anything would have been better but this is an unexpected good news.

this can go one of only two ways. (a) he will be insightfully funny, a mix between roasting and going all gervais on them, which if he is to remain edgy at all,he needs to do in spades. or, (b), he will turn into that douchebag schmaltzy billy crystal "song and dance" man, full of corny jokes and more anxious to prove his entertaining chops. "look everyone,i caan sing funny lyrics in the style of sinatra". unfortunately, i believe we will get plan B.

He sings in his show(s) and the live action special he had he included singing and a few moves and character voices. I guarantee there will be songs...BUT I forsee nasty songs and the censors with their hands on the button for sure. He did great with the Sheen Roast, so I think this is going to be a great Oscar show.
I will be watching this and mark my words I think it will have huge ratings.
