Sigourney Weaver tops movie hero poll

By Tribute on March 17, 2013 | 5 Comments

According to Contactmusic, Sigourney Weaver’s character in the Alien movies, Ellen Ripley, has been voted the best movie hero in a poll conducted by Total Film magazine. Ellen Ripley topped the list of the 100 best movie heroes of all time,  beating out characters like Indiana Jones, Batman, Aragorn, and James Bond. Weaver’s character was the only woman to be included in the top 10. Total Film‘s deputy editor, Jamie Graham, attributes Ellen Ripley’s popularity to her mixture of ruthlessness and tenderness. These characteristics are especially prevalent in the sequel, Aliens (1986), in which Ripley becomes attached to a little girl named Newt and takes charge of a terrified rescue team. Ellen Ripley has skyrocketed in popularity since a Top 50 Movie Heroes poll in 2007 in which she was a distant 40th place. The poll also ranked the top 100 villains. Surprise, surprise: Darth Vader took the number one spot. The villain top 10 also includes the Joker, Norman Bates, and the Wicked Witch of the West. ~Cassie Jasinski

That’s good to see. Not a bad choice, but I think Bond lost cause even though it’s the same character, it’s played by different actors. At least Ripley was in a few movies and all the same person. Joker will move up over the years cause Nicholson did a great job and then bam, Ledger did an even better job and over the years we will all see him possibly moving into #1.
