Bethany Fenton, 5, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year, was granted her biggest wish — to sing for Simon Cowell. Her dream came true at the Britain’s Got Talent studios in London last Saturday. Afterwards, she told the British paper The Daily Mail: “Simon let me sing ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ to him. He’s so nice and I love him.” Bethany passed away at a hospice the following Tuesday (June 8). Cowell’s spokesman Max Clifford said, “He is really upset, he said what a beautiful little girl she was. He is just so sad, and sad for the whole family. She was a very special little girl and Simon was so touched when she sang for him. He was happy that he was able to do a special something on Saturday night to give her a few precious moments… his heart goes out to Bethany’s mum and dad and he is thinking of them.” A spokesman for Bethany’s family said, “Her dad said that she had done what she always wanted to do, meet Simon Cowell and sing to him. She had achieved her big ambition and was now ready to depart this earth.”

What a beautiful little girl. My heart is breaking for Bethany and her family.
R.I.P Bethany Fenton
That was awesome of Simon; see? He’s not so heartless as he seems on the show at times
Wow! Lots of power given to you Simon, that the last wish of a little girl on this earth is to sing for you?…must be nice…and lots of responsibility to others…
i’m sure that new twinkle we see in the sky, is little Bethany Fenton, who really didn’t die, she’s just got a new job now, a star in the sky, so forever and always she’ll now light the way. twinkle, twinkle little star. Good for you Simon to grant that little dear a wish. Bless you both!
rest in peace, its always hard and heart breaking when a child so innocent dies so young. i cant imagine the pain the family is going through. i am glad there are people like simon in this world that are willing to grant sick childrens wishes so they can have everything while they are still on this earth. such a sad story
Rest in peace sweet little one, my heart goes out to Bethany’s Family and Simon what a beautiful thing you did for that sweet little one, God Bless!!
For a cold heartless bastard, it looks like its just a front..
It just isn’t right that children get sick or die at such a young age… Kudos to you Simon for granting her, her last wish. My heart goes out to her family… RIP Bethany, you sweet angel!
You know, people always say that Simon is a jerk, a##hole whatever. But, did they ever sit down, shut their mouth, open their ears, and clear their minds, and really think about the whole picture? Simon knows the business, knows what will work, what won’t, so why should he pussy foot around, and o dear o dear. He gives it to people straight, like it or not. Now, if people hate him so much, why did they tune in to American Idol ? If I did not like him, I sure would not tune into a show knowing he’d will be on. People, grow up!
I’ve never found Simon to be cold or heartless – he is blunt and honest for sure, but telling someone who dreams of being a singer that they can’t sing is only ever in that person’s best interests – when they’re not too stubborn or stupid to see it, Simon has done them a huge favour.
The guy has a great heart and though most people don’t seem to realize it, that’s actually the reason he is such an attractive personality.
yea he did a good thing indeed…
as of his honesty its good to be honest really, i think apart of the problems with people who think they can sing, is mostly the parents to blame… parents need to start being honest with their children while at the same time encourage them to get better.. parents are really doing more harm then good by not being honest… i seen those American idol auditions… and some are so god awful that it surprised me that they actually thought they had any talent
A special song, for a special girl, in a special place, I hope her parents can find peace, in the future that they did what their little girl wanted, my heart goes out to all the family.
WHAT A GREAT THING FOR SIMON TO D IT IS VERY NOBLE OF HIM FOR THAT AND VERY HEART WARMING TOO TWO BIG BIG BIG THUMBS UP TO SIMON FOR DOING THIS. AND TO THE FAMILY OF THE GIRL MY HEART GOES OUT YOU. FROM JASON
I have been involved in “showbiz” since I was 7 years old. In the fall I’m going to be teaching a course on the – reality – of getting into the industry and will be teaching my students – the cold, hard facts. Like Simon, I see absolutely no reason to fill their poor heads and hearts with fantasies and delusions. If – YOU – have never worked in the entertainment industry you couldn’t possibly know what it takes to “make it”. You couldn’t possibly know about working 18- 20 hour days, for weeks on end. You couldn’t possibly know the incredible amount of physical and emotional stress involved in working such long hours, over such a long period of time. You couldn’t possibly know anything about Simon Cowell, or, who he is because – you’ve never met him. It is true, I’ve never met him, either, however, through my experience in the entertainment, I see in him as being a genuinely, sensitive, caring, compassionate, human being. His deep, heart-felt caring for this child and her parents, is quite admirable and to be praised – not scorned. What have – YOU- done for the world, lately ?
The reason I watched AI is because of Simon…now that he is gone, I may still watch it because of Ellen.
You have a great heart and Thank you Simon!
Jocelyn
It is so sad to hear of one so young and beautiful passing away. Simon, I didn’t think you were as difficult a person as you portrayed. Bless you for maying her last wish coming true. May she twinkle down on you.

simon cowell you are a nice person to do the little girl wish .It sad that she has die maybe she would have mad some disc. so now you are in piece and my heartfull feelings goes to the family god bless you Simon for doing that rose
What a gracious person Simon Cowell is. This is what is called “CLASS”. Letting a little child who is ill sing for Simon. Little Bethany has a big smile on her face and is shining down, knowing that she sang her last song for Simon and that was the only thing she wanted.
Too bad there aren’t more people who are honest and forthright when it comes to telling people the truth about the talent they don’t have. He may have been blunt about it, but the screechers and off tune people had to go. My poor ears.
I really wish everyone had class in themselves. Look in the mirror before you step out the front door.
My heart Goes all out to Bethany family. And Simon you did an awsome thing god bless you your a great guy.
I am truly sorry for the family of this sweet child. Simon did a truly lovely thing for Bethany but also for the family who will have this memory forever. For someone to suggest he did it for “publicity” etc is wrong. If he is such a cold bastard he could have declined, but he didn’t, and she sang and that’s all there is to it. The Publicity that made this man was by being NOT NICE, not a nice person. That doesn’t mean Simon isn’t a fine human being outside of his job.
I agree Marie LeBlanc. The entertainment industry is difficult. The judges/adjudicators do not pussyfoot around. They are honest and blunt. That is just the way it is.
I highly doubt that Simon Cowell did this for any other reason other than he is kind hearted. I actually heard/read that he is very involved with charities and is a very generous person. Just because he tells people what he thinks doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a big heart.
RIP Bethany and Simon you’re a great guy in my mind
xo
That is unbelievably sad. I doubt I could survive it myself.
This story gave me goose bumps, and made me a little misty. Sweet and sad at the same time. Who knew under that gruff exterior, and crocodile thick skin, Simon Cowell actually had a heart?
My condolences to her parents. She was a such a beautiful little girl, it’s beyond cruel that she was only here for such a short time. But she left an indelible imprint, and had the moment of her oh so tragically short life. She is no doubt in peace, a perfect little angel.
Bless…
Had to add – here’s how one could imagine their little meeting going:
Bethany: Twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are…
Simon: Okay, let me stop you there – that was truly awful. I thought I was the one that was going to die for a moment there. You have no future in this industry…well, for more than just the obvious reason.
Simon: thank you. Bethany: twinkle, twinkle little star. xoxo
i don’t know why everyone is calling him heartless and cold. i never see that in simon. he is just an honest man. This is not suprising at all, and kudos to simon. real touching story.
Actually, I see very few people calling him heartless and cold. Most of the comments here are very positive.
way to go Simon for letting her sing for you and hope you have a nice life with your new show we will miss you alot no one can take your place
I am very sad for the family and I am glad that their little girl got her final wish. Also I am glad that Simon took time out of his busy schedule to allow Bethany to sing. My condolences to the family.
How terribly sad. Thank you Simon for granting the little one her wish. My heart just aches reading this.
i don’t have the words to explain my views about the whole situation.
