Snow White takes over male-dominated box office

Kristen Stewart is taking the box office by storm with her performance in Snow White & The Huntsman. The movie debuted at No. 1 with $56.3 million domestically. That’s about $20 million higher than the industry’s expectations. “We weren’t even thinking we could do beyond $40 million, especially for a title where you didn’t know if the males are going to show up. And they did,” said Nikki Rocco, head of distribution for Universal Pictures. The movie, also starring Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth, bumped Men in Black 3 from the top spot into second place with $29.3 million. In one weekend, Snow White & The Huntsman pulled in nearly as much as the $62.4 million that the recent Snow White adventure, Mirror Mirror, starring Julia Roberts, took in domestically over its entire run. Snow White also received a 4 out of 5 star rating at Tribute.ca. Men in Black 3 earned an additional $29.3 million and 4 stars from Tribute.ca users. The Avengers was pushed to third place, earning $20.3 million for a domestic total of $553 million, retaining its high 4.6 stars at Tribute.ca. Battleship wound up in fourth place, taking in $4.8 million in its third weekend and getting a 3.9 star rating at Tribute. Rounding out the top five was The Dictator starring Sacha Baron Cohen, with a 3.3 star rating.

Very good movie. However, while Kristen was good in this movie, the Huntsman and the evil Queen were stronger characters. It’s worth watching just for the Huntsman… 😉
