Star Wars: The Force Awakens now on Blu-ray and DVD!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has finally been released on Blu-ray and DVD, and comes with hours of special extras.

The movie, which broke a number of box office records, is a very welcome addition to the Star Wars universe. It was a stroke of genius to bring back the beloved characters from the original three movies, the ones that made us love Star Wars in the first place.

In the movie, which takes place 30 years after Return of the Jedi, Carrie Fisher plays an older, dignified Leia, who is now a General. She and Han Solo, played by Harrison Ford, have married and have a son.

As the action starts, we find that the First Order is after Leia’s brother, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), who is the last Jedi. They have their soldiers attack a small settlement, where they believe they can find a map that shows Luke’s location.

During the attack, Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), a wise-cracking Resistance pilot who gets some of the film’s funniest lines, hides the map inside BB-8, an adorable little rolling orange-and-white robot. When Poe is captured, BB-8 is on his own to get the map to safety.

The little unit meets up with a scavenger named Rey (Daisy Ridley) on the desert planet Jakku. Rey turns out to be a bold, brave young woman who has a strong sense of honor and loyalty.

Soon after she and BB-8 meet, they run into Finn (John Boyega), a former Stormtrooper who has escaped the First Order. They join forces on an incredible adventure in which they discover the Millennium Falcon and subsequently run into Han Solo and his faithful, longtime companion Chewbacca.

There are a number of surprises and reveals in this movie, so if you haven’t seen it yet, you’ll definitely want to get your hands on a copy. The combination of characters we love, played by the original actors, combined with a selection of exciting new characters, makes for a great return to this series.

As I mentioned earlier, there are a number of special extras that fans will be dying to see, including portions of the cast’s table read, in which Mark Hamill narrates the script while the new actors join the old timers for a first read through of the script. You’ll also find a full length documentary called Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey; featurettes titled Crafting Creatures (click here to read our interview with creature effects artist Neil Scanlon), Blueprint of a Battle: The Snow Fight, John Williams: The Seventh Symphony and ILM: The Visual Magic of The Force.

There are also seven deleted scenes, although only six appear on the disc. To get the seventh one, “Tunnel Standoff” — you have to use the code that comes inside the Blu-ray combo pack to unlock the digital version of the movie. Once you have access to the film, you’ll see section titled Bonus Scenes. Enjoy!
